Comments Thread For: The unbearable weight of Jaron Ennis? massive talent

That Jaron "Boots" Ennis has massive talent is pretty much beyond dispute. Eric Raskin looks at how the unified welterweight titleholder has been dragged for minor imperfections in the past because he was otherwise so obviously capable of achieving greatness.

This is nothing more than an overwritten, overly long, purple prose-riddled free pass note for Ennis. Boots says when he fights “top of the line guys” he will prove that “nobody can mess” with him. Yet when he had a chance to prove it against Ortiz - and for big money - he hid behind the “I wanna unify at 147” excuse when he knows very well that’s both an unrealistic and irrelevant goal (Norman is going to milk his title as long as he can and PBC won’t let Barrios fight Boots). Plus, Ennis makes little effort to put in the real work necessary to become a marketable, engaging fighter that fans actively want to root for. He doesn’t have to be loud or arrogant, but at least show some personality and a hint of charisma. Boots needs to step up - both in and out of the ring - if he really wants to shut up his critics.

The last guy Boots needs to be great is Eddy. Meddling Eddy will keep him on Euro pablum until the cows come home.

When you need to come out and justify chitty results etc etc
it's just another way of trying to mend off the truth imo
I’d rather he proves these things in the ring which he hasn’t
Let us all recall how Boots was trying so desperately to get Bud to fight him knowing that one fight could change the whole outlook on his career
Knowing this he still didn’t jump on his biggest payday and life changing fight when confronted by Ortiz

He schooled the guy Ortiz was set to fight twice. Ortiz’s style is perfect for Boots. Boots is more skilled and more athletic. Put your money on Vergil if you want.

The question is, why did Boots turn it down if its so easy?
