Combined record of Shields opponents at the time of their fight with her: 206-22-6
Combined record of Ali opponents at the time of their fight with her: 183-58-12 (and 45 of those wins were Christy Martin's)
Despite having 24 fights compared to 16 for Shields, Ali's opponents had considerably fewer wins. And, on average, they had far fewer fights and far more losses on their records. Because it was an extremely shallow pool of inexperienced women fighting each other over and over. The infrastructure for amateur competition, professional training, finding sparring partners, etc simply didn't exist then as it does now.
Even today, in 2025, women's boxing above 160 is extremely shallow compared to the lower weights. But the difference between now and 20-25 years ago is absolutely drastic. Forget the Olympics and amateur world championships, women's boxing was straight up illegal in many of the countries that supply its best fighters today. Shields had beaten more good fighters by her 5th pro fight than Ali saw in her whole career.
Sure you may be right about those things but that doesn’t change the fact Ali would’ve knocked her bum a$$ out Perkins was landing she’s just 42 and punches like a 12 year old. Shields was getting dirty to try to land big shots. It was disgraceful to try to do that when you’re already in a complete mismatch. Gwoat my a$$
Shields is continuing the lineage of heroine boxers who became stars, thus making massive contributions to the development & expansion of women's boxing.
Please stop to consider the following: for us to get even ONE Taylor vs Persoon, or Taylor vs Serrano, or Harper vs Jonas, the world had to embrace Christy Martin, Jane Couch, Ann Wolfe, Laila Ali & Nicola Adams as stars despite the lack of competition in depth that all of them faced at the time they were active.
Nowadays we can name a few female fighters who aren't totally farkin embarrassing, thanks to the gradual progress women's boxing has been making over the decades. It's more than we had before.
Claressa's move to HW is the the latest welcome example of a star shedding light on a dark corner of the combat sports world. Her win sheds further light & the next generation of talent will be slightly deeper, thanks, in part, to the career of Claressa Shields.
Claressa Shields' victory over Danielle Perkins was a dominant display of skill and power. She scored a knockdown and controlled the fight from start to finish, securing a one-sided decision win. Shields' performance solidified her status as a three-division undisputed champion, showcasing her exceptional talent and determination.

That’s horseshht. Women boxing above 150 is absolutely garbage and has not improved one bit since they started sanctioning women’s boxing.
After Saturdays great night of fights I was feeling good and thought id give this unusual Sunday boxing card a try since I’ve never seen this Shieids girl fight. Holy F what a disappointment and what a shht show of a card that was. The shht show got worse with each fight. For someone who calls herself the “gwoat”, what a letdown she is. No wonder she can’t garner any attention. Her boxing style is crap, she has zero power, and there is zero pizzazz to her boxing skill. Then add her gh etto attitude. She was twerking and rapping walking to the ring, wtf no thank you. For a first timer to watching her fight, I was let down on what I saw big time.
Fact of the matter is there is zero talent in women’s boxing above 150. She fought Frankenstein who was 5-0 and a supposed world champ, and she was 42 years old. That right there tells the whole store.
Now she becomes the women’s heavyweight world champion and her name can sit alongside the Ali’s, Holyfield’s, and Usyk’s of the world. Yea sure ok. Lol Lol.
Those who anticipate watching these crapshows will watch anything
Women sports is the definition of inferior.
.... he posted on the boxing website, in the hopes that his overtures would discover fertile ground in the hearts of fellow misogynists. Instead, the call to arms sat collecting dust, like his sense of self worth.
I'm not impressed with this "historic achievement" given the absolute lack of depth in women's boxing. Especially in the upper weight divisions, title belts are barely more than participation awards. But I do appreciate the work Shields is putting in to make women's boxing more and more relevant. Maybe some day, it will be a real sport worthy of respect. I do hope so. But that day is not now. There's fewer women from middleweight to heavyweight than in any ONE of the lower divisions. And there's more competition for a men's domestic belt in virtually any division than there is across all of women's boxing. Is women's boxing better than it was 25 years ago? Yes, IMO. But it still requires context. I even follow women's boxing, but to claim that getting undisputed when there was only 1 belt holder before she entered the division, and only 17 competitors including her, is some sort of achievement, is simp behavior. There's more competition for a parking spot at Costco.
