In fact, there is no KO loss whatsoever that warrants a former champ to take a tune-up fight against someone with Harper's record; that's the point.
A really bad KO loss is what AJ suffered in the hands of Dubois. He couldn't even get off the ground and his team has already jumped into the ring to help him even before the ref waved it off, unlike the cases of Wilder and Whyte, where both men beat the count.
Regardless, would you have kept the same energy if AJ's next fight was against Harper? Do you in your wildest imagination believe AJ's or Parker's (if he suffers a similar fate vs DDD) next fight will be against someone like Harper?
My point is, nothing whatsoever justifies a Harper fight. Other "top" fighters are not doing such things, so Wilder should be called out while we commend others for not doing so instead of lashing out at them for no good reason.
As for being shot or not, I am not one of those who jump into conclusion that a fighter is shot just after a fight or two, let alone after a tough fight (tough here applies only to Wilder's case). Both Whyte and Wilder are not shot in my opinion. Wilder's case was that he went off the PBC roaster due to Saudi money and would have lost to both men at any time in his career. (I was one of the few on this site who predicted both loses.)
As for Whyte, his last meaningful fight was against Franklin. I believe if a real test presents itself going forward, he would up his preparation and his game accordingly. We all saw his performance against Wach after a failed drug test similar to the current situation, and every one called him shot afterwards, which wasn't the case as shown against Povetkin(2x) and Franklin.
