Comments Thread For: Fighting Words: Will 2025 bring more undisputed champions?

Four new undisputed champions were crowned in 2024 two men and two women, ranging from the queen of the strawweights to the king of the heavyweights. Can we expect to see more in 2025?

Pointless speculation. As soon as someone manages to become undisputed, it will be short lived. IBF will strip them of the title within 30 days.

WTF is up with Fundora only fighting once last year? Dude is holding up the division!

I don't think we will see him anytime before the summer if not they would of already announced the Spence fight.

Will the IBF do something ****** and stand in the way of unification. Yes, definitely. So cruiserweight is right out.

Light heavy won't last because of the IBF.

Super middle probably will, because Scull is low hanging fruit for Canelo to cherry pick.

160 won't, because PBC. Hopefully I'm wrong about that, but PBC giving up both their champs seems unlikely. I'll start to believe that if Adames and Lara actually fight.

154 isn't moving because of Bud, who is stagnating the division by activating his right to fight Fundora, but then not doing it. Hopefully that times out. I'm a fan of Crawford, but this nonsense with Canelo or nothing is cap, as the kids say. He needs to fight Fundora or retire and stop wasting everyone's time.

147 won't happen because Ennis doesn't actually want to fight anyone at the top, and the other weak titlists aren't much better. If we see Ennis fight Norman or Stanionis fight Barrios, maybe, but I think we're more likely to see crap like Barrios v Pacquiao, Ennis v Benn, Norman v Teo at best, and Stanionis will probably get shafted again.

140 won't happen in 2025 because the belts are too splintered and some look likely to be vacant.

135 is absolutely not happening. You've got Tank, who won't fight anyone with a pulse and hasn't fought a champ in his own division since 130 and is due for retirement, Loma who might never fight again, Berinchyk who's low hanging fruit ala Kambosos but still isn't getting called out and will end up losing to his contender, and Shakur, who nobody wants to fight because nobody wins that fight, even Shakur.

130 is too fragmented, and the biggest name has shown zero interest in unifications.

126 is too fragmented, but they need to get something on if they want any chance at the Inoue payday, because if he gets through 2025 clean, he'll be coming for whoever is unified.

122, let's just say Inoue doesn't need to fight Picasso, and fighting another WBC mandatory is a duck, likely from Top Rank. But MJ isn't the IBF mandatory, so I doubt the WBA strips him.

118 will get derailed with an Inoue fight, so that's not likely to happen.

115 is too fragmented, although I hope Bam can get at least some unifications. I will be interested in the Puma Martinez v Ioka rematch.

112 I think will start, but isn't likely to finish in the year.

108, Jerusalem is scheduled already, so we'll see how that goes before we can talk about whether anyone wants to try Collazo.

And women's boxing just doesn't have depth. I think it's ridiculous to entertain the notion that an "undisputed" fight in a division with three belts vacant, and with so few fighters that there's more competition for a parking spot at Costco than for a world title belt, is in any way deserving of discussion in the same breath as any of the men's divisions. I hope that it will one day become worth such discussion, but that day is not now.

It all depends on who is backing you . Riyadh Season is definitely behind Opetaia . So Opetaia is my pick to unify.

also how the **** is Jai the lineal champ? Usyk vacated and Jai has one belt, atleast have a tournament or unify with another belt before you just up and call him the lineal champ. there is no lineal champ, him and zurdo should fight to determine the best in the division and then maybe call it lineal
