Isn't that at least half the fun of it all?
It was way better back in the day. Especially during the Floyd-Pacquiao civil war on here. None of these jabronis can even break down fights anymore.

I'm a newbie on these pages so I'll take your word for it.
I do like the passion some posters bring to the board, even if some takes are skewed by personal bias or other considerations (and we know who you are LOL).
It's all good as long as I'm entertained. I don't take any of this personally, I'm too frickin' old for that

Yeah I always think this. I'm not even discounting that in many ways he will be nervous but what he really will want to do as a grown up, professional, adult, with a life outside of boxing.

Is do his f.ucking job and go home. He's focussed and he will be desperate to get in there.

I never question boxers when they say they just want to fight right now.

Jeez. If you gave me (a bloke off the street) a 3 month training camp to fight Artur Beterbiev knowing full well he's gonna break my face and put me in hospital. At this point I'd be desperate to get in there. Take my bag. And pay the mortgage. You're locked in and having a looming date with destiny.

Sometimes I think these kind of views must come from either really young people or those with no real world responsibility.

The amateur psychology is always cringey. The world doesnt work like that.

Came for jokes and cookies, left with a life lesson.

Grown ups these days... Tsk, tsk...

For the most part you're right, that's what professionals do - they handle the pressure, each in his own way, go to work (win or lose), and pay the bills.
I'll just throw this in there - we heard recently that Oliver McCall is talking about a comeback. I was watching live on HBO when he had some sort of mental breakdown and wasn't the professional (at the very highest level of the sport) we expect to see. Yeah, it was a rare, freak event, but I tell ya, it stays with me having had to witness that. Just sayin'.
And what about Duran's 'No Mas' with Leonard? Was that professional? Chit happens.

Not to mention Jab Zudah. All his career was full of moments like these.

Yeah, Judah seemed to let his emotions sabotage his success, right? Going after Jay Nady was unhinged.
Look, I'm not arguing that Fury is or isn't unhinged and will suffer in the ring for it. For all his buffoonery and self-destructive behaviors (drug abuse, training lapses) he's in it to win it between the first and final bells of every fight. He might make tactical or strategic mistakes, but nothing close to mental breakdowns, so I discount anything that severe this time as well. He's a professional. A quirky, oddball, blow-hard professional.

I'd argue they still got in there, lol.

I dont criticise fighters for pulling out if they've got pummelled or badly injured - we shouldnt b plebs baying for the gladiators to be finished.

The issue comes if it looks like they've found a way out and essentially cheated for their pound note. That's defo not Duran.

poor old McCall had a mental breakdown and cried like a baby in public. I give him a pass on that- no way the old boy himself saw that happening.

Oh hell no, me neither. I honestly don't have what it takes to put myself in harm's way the way a world-class fighter has to every time, I freely admit that.
I used to like Larry Merchant doing the ringside broadcasts for HBO until the night he starting harshing on a fighter (can't remember which one, damn) who had a totally legit medical reason for not answering the bell in the middle rounds instead of going out on his shield and risking permanent damage. I thought, jeez, Larry, these are human beings up there, nobody deserves disability for your momentary entertainment. I was very disappointed in Larry.

Yeah happens all the time. Multiple fighters have had to quit with orbital fractures say. For the best will in the world I am arguing 99.99999% of elite boxers never mind normal people quit then. You're seeing double and your head is broken - you're monkey brain at that point is definitely gonna tell you that fight is no longer an option because it will have deduced you will probably will get blinded and you also might die.

Impending doom is actually the medical terminology. It is an overwhelming feeling that we are f.ucked.

some of us might get it if we suffer a heart attack or a stroke or some horrible trauma but the likelihood is we wont.

Larry always came across as a bit of a c.unt to me. Someone who never got a slap for saying something s.tupid. Which being in the business he was in was pretty remarkable.
