Comments Thread For: Daily Bread Mailbag: Shakur Stevenson-Floyd Schofield, Boots Ennis-Vergil Ortiz negotiations, and what happened in the corner between Galal Yafai and Sunny Edwards

In this week's mailbag, coach Stephen "Breadman" Edwards talks about big-time women's boxing, the Shakur Stevenson-Floyd Schofield fight on February 22, the breakdown in talks between Jaron "Boots" Ennis and Vergil Ortiz and what it means for Ennis and what would "Bread' have done if he was in the corner when Sunny Edwards said he did not want to be in the ring after two rounds

Shameful response from Breadcrumbs here, after all that **** riding he’s done throughout the yrs for Boots no way anyone could expected him to be transparent on this matter. What’s even worse is him bringing up the idea of Vergil ducking Zayas b/c he’s fighting Madrimov SMH.. I’m done reading from this casual boxing coach as the old saying goes only time reveals the truth and the truth is Boots a duck. Philly should be ashamed to have someone like him rep their city

        I like and respect Bread.

But instead of just admitting what a bad look this is for Boots he went off on a history lesson about black fighters.

Did Boots save Breadman from a mugger, or something?

The defensiveness toward Boots from Bread is kind of embarrassing otherwise.

Boots had the opportunity to say yes to the biggest fight/purse of his career so far,a before and after type of fight and he just said NO, thats a duck wherever you see it. I respect coach Bread but he's trying to somehow spin it off and its dead obvious.

Bread fell in love with Boots and can't criticise him without back peddling. Like they say, your mouth gets you in trouble and your pride keeps you there. It's more about Bread being right than it is about Boots.

Ya I’m done reading this guys “bread bag”. Says ennis will stop Ortiz and says people are making him into the next Andrade. No, he’s the one who went on talking about he needs to move up needs to fight someone better he had an easy fight he has 3 months to prepare career high payday and bum a$$ bread man says Ortiz is somehow future ducking him? Ridiculous lol. Boots is 29 Ortiz is 24. The fact ennis hasn’t had a competitive opponent even on paper yet is ridiculous and him coming out it public defending it makes his opinions as a trainer kind of a joke

Man i wish Boots would've just taken the fight. Ortiz is nothing special at all and anyone being objective knows Ortiz lost his last fight and got a gift. Dude was busting Ortiz's @ss. He looked like his face got drugged on the concrete. This would've been easy money for Boots, but now he has to face the consequences of not taking the fight. I get it's a quick turnaround, but hell he should've just beat Ortiz's @ss and come back down to 147

Boots will never get recognition and legitimacy by staying at 147. Even if he becomes undisputed....which is unlikely considering his promoter. His team needs to tell him this. If they aren't telling him this, he needs a new team. One thing I agree with Bread on: Boots needs better PR. Somebody needs to be explaining why he didn't take his biggest money fight. Somebody needs to explain why he didn't fight Ortiz, who looked pretty beatable in his last fight. What better option does he have? Radio silence is the wrong move.
