Comments Thread For: Fighting Words -- Vinny Pazienza and the long-standing issues with hall of fame voting

This isn't really about Vinny Pazienza, but in a way it has to be. Because it is Pazienza's selection into the International Boxing Hall of Fame that has once again underscored the long-standing issues with who votes...

When I saw that Paz got in it really tarnished their credibility there are so many more deserving fighters no way should Vinny Paz be held in the same regard as Robinson Ali Armstrong etc

This article contains more misconceptions than a speech by Liz Truss. Once you include promoters, referees and even (absurdly) journalists because of their ‘service to boxing’ you can’t exclude boxers who did a huge amount to popularise boxing (and contrary to the silly comment, Vinny certainly did) because they aren’t exceptional. The perfect example is Rocky Graziano. Was he an ATG? No, I could name at least 30 MWs better than Rocky. does he belong in the HoF? Of course he does because after World War 2 he & Zale did more than anyone to popularise boxing. I know Vinny was not in a fight of the year and, TBH, he is borderline but saying, e.g, that Gatti should not be in the HoF is ludicrous.

gotta get a real voting board. most these writers don't know anything about the history of the sport or the bar it set. these idiots will vote in Broner and Tank and Danny Garcia. wish I could throw in a lol there. but it's very true.

American bias, sentimental picks, lack of voting transparency and negligible minimum standards. Sounds about right.

There's so many deserving fighters that languish year after year because they don't have name value and are not relevant in popular boxing markets, when the Hall should always be about celebrating excellence no matter where a boxer comes from.
