Um, Roy was just a freak of nature.

PED's don't make you a freak of nature.

You may get a little more endurance or be able to put on a little more muscle.

That doesn't make you a freak.

    Nature does that.

Same reason we haven’t seen an NBA player like Michael Jordan.

      Roy was a 1 of 1.
We seen quite a few guys with nearly the same level of athleticism as Jordan like Vince Carter,Lebron,Zion,D.Rose,AI,Westbrook and Anthony Edwards

Quite literally exactly what they do.

Performance wise and athleticism right now I'd say Naoya Inoue is to me like an RJJ of the lower weight class.

Two very specific examples, generally records are consistently being broken across nearly all athletically discriminative sports.

Is the testing really that much stricter? Feels like athletes get away with it just as easily.

Regardless, PED’s are not the reason there hasn’t been another Roy Jones, he was just a freak athlete like a Usain Bolt, Michael Jordan, Brock Lesnar, Erling Haaland etc.
I don't disagree that he was a freak athlete. Like I said, he was on an equal playing field as they were probably all cheating.

Just saying with the eye test, some of the boxers from the 90s, 80s etc look incredible. That likely has a lot to do with the fact they didn't need to worry about testing and we're juiced to the gills.

Not really debatable if testing is better now, of course it is... but still not close to good enough sure.

              Also, Roy's the GOAT.

When 94-02 says Roy was one of one, man he ain't wrong. Roy does own a record by himself. Not like Marciano, who can be paired with about 8 or 9 other undefeated HW champions if you open up the meaning of "boxing" to include all the various incarnations that lead up to modern boxing. Or like Manny Pacquiao who you have to perform mental gymnastics to first accredit him as an 8 division champion and then show hella bias by discrediting those the term would apply to if such a thing existed prior.

No sir, Roy did a thing no other man has ever done in the full three thousand years history of boxing that requires no bull**** semantics or chronological rule base shenanigans

He is the one and only Middleweight champion to become a Heavyweight champion while weighing in above the upper limit of the lower weight class. Mendoza, Fitzs, etc, won their HW crowns while weighing in the same as their MW fights. Roy is the only small man to put on weight and learn how to fight well enough with that weight to become HW champion. Only, singular, one. 3k years, one dude.

That is impressive. I can not think of any other boxer who has a real record that really only belongs to them.

Evander is the only x4, except for Onomastos and Tisandros and such. Pac covered the most weight divisions but didn't cover the biggest spread of weight. Rocky Marciano is the only undefeated HW champion in sanctioned gloved boxing history but in LPRR, R&T, Pyx, Pygmachia, and Mostre there's quite a few.

Roy, alone, some older dudes from a racist era that heavily focused on England and America did something similar but less impressive. Damn dude, that's a good deal that.

But, like with all things, adjustments are made to beat the tests. To the point where it's not overly difficult to beat the testing.

So it's the same difference really. Athletes are using now just as much as they were then.
I would argue the testing is just as ineffective now.

Although efforts are being made by WADA, VADA etc they’re completely out of their depth.

As I just said in the post above, I think the stricter testing has had little to no effect in cleaning up the PED problem in sports.

I’d be very tempted to just legalise them. Especially in non-combat sports.

No I don’t disagree with you mate.

The testing IS infinitely better now than it was then, but, it’s just as easy to cheat because with advanced science and understanding of how these drugs work and how to manipulate the body it’s just as easy to beat them as it was to beat the single test back in the day.

People getting caught these days is usually down to and luck more than anything.

Yeah 100%. I remember watching an interview with a doctor who was talking about how easy it is to avoid testing. He said if an athlete was to take a substance (can’t remember the exact one) via IV, testers would need to arrive within 4-6 hours for it to even be traceable.

I really became infatuated with the PED stuff after watching that Icarus doc.
