Comments Thread For: Shabaz Masoud was so good against Liam Davies even the judges weren't able to rob him

Save for being knocked out in round one, or badly injured, there aren't many worse ways to lose than the way Liam Davies lost against Shabaz Masoud last night (November 2) in Birmingham. It wasn't that the defeat was particularly punishing, or that Davies was humiliated, but more that the disparity in skill between the two unbeaten rivals throughout the 12 rounds they shared left Davies with more questions than answers.

Masoud fought a good tactical fight that saw him win 8 of the 12 for me. He held , smothered and moved with a southpaw backhand that made Liam look slow, hardly missing with it. He never gave Liam a chance to land his hurtful blows , excellent boxing .No rematch needed there!

Davis won 2 rounds max. Horrible judging. Almost criminal..

Even giving Davis 4 rounds is quite generous. But in the end, at least the right man won.

I gave Davies two rounds, with a possible third as a gift. Masoud over-clinched to start, but once he realized Davies had nothing but a straight right, all he had to do was counter him to a decision. Which he did damn near effortlessly.

As an irritable old git who constantly complains about today's boxers, I thought Masoud was excellent. It is a shame he can't put more pepper on his punches. That will probably stop him reaching world championship level, which his skills deserve. I really enjoyed watching him school Davis.
