Comments Thread For: Daniel Dubois: Revealing moments from the past

The career of Daniel Dubois can be compared to Anthony Joshua's in several ways: the vaunted fight-ending power; the suggestion of questionable punch resistance and stamina; the humbling defeats; the regular switching of training teams; the rebirths.

If people only knew the challenges DD faces in life, they would probably be shocked to understand that he’s able to perform at this level because the disability that will be with him for the rest of his life is nothing short of amazing.

DD has been called a quitter based on his fights with Usyk and Joyce. If real journalist in the UK dug deep into a personal issue regarding a disability DD has, and still be able to perform at this level, I guarantee you that a movie about his life would easily win an Oscar.

Suffice to say, that DD is no quitter. He may be the only boxer in history who has performed and exceeded expectations given his disability.

So I leave you boxing fans with this nugget. DD is not a quitter. DD has been taken advantage of by his father who should have no business handling his financial affairs. Between the father and Frank Warren, what has been down to DD is a disgrace. Both would be banned from boxing if some investigative reporter in the UK took the time to ask the father and Warren to show the exact paper trail of his fight purses.

He may get disoriented in a fight, he can’t help it. He never asked for the world to Rain the quitter label on this Man. Shame on anyone who calls DD a quitter. His story is beyond.remarkable. Now let’s hope DD gets the court to appoint someone who can look after his finances and never allow his de****able father anywhere near his money.

Phase III, that is kinda interesting because I never like these situations where the father lives out his ring ambitions through his son. It is one thing where the father has been a boxer hisself, but I know an example, at a much lower level, where the father decided the son should be a boxer. His mother hated the whole thing but it became a father-son thing & cut her out but the father never had the guts to put gloves on. I don't much like it & it feels wrong.

On your other point, I would never call DDD a quitter & that isn't my problem with him. IMO he is stiff, doesn't move his head or upper body & basically can get hit with everything the other guy throws. He seems to have a good chin but that can take you so far. Brutally, it can take you to hospital if you keep just swallowing shots.
