I watched Holmes vs. Ali as a "poverty-stricken" African American youth. It was devastating to watch "The Champ," get brutalized by Larry Holmes! Manny, those kids don't need to see that!

Ali vs Holmes (1980) I remember watching that fight too so that puts you and I in the same time frame. Yes I can remember the 1970s growing up in a southeast DC housing project and "poverty stricken" was an understatement. I can also appreciate how my father fought to get us out of that situation and into a "cosby show" lifestyle before the 1980s ended. He was a true 'boxer of life'. He lost some fights, got knocked down a few times but always beat the ten count and in the end he was undisputed champ for his kids right up until his last breath. Peace to all the brothers who beat the odds to make it in life. Give us our flowers now because they forgot to give them to my pops!! haha

That one hurt bad! Felt like I was witnessing a modern-day lynching, or a crucifixion! That's what Ali meant to us! Ali and Bruce Lee were superheroes in our projects! Salute to Castle Hill! I know Pacquiao has to be the same in Asia! I hope he spares those children the suffering, we endured!

And I was of the opinion that had Pacquiao came in the best possible shape he could, he stood a chance against someone like Barrios, until I heard about how bad he looked in his recent exhibition.

I didn’t watch it. And I don’t need to watch it. Reading about it is enough for me and tells me all I need to know.

But I'll never forget being at the garden when Trinidad moved up to 160 and hit Joppy with those hands where he put a gang of tape directly on his knuckles. Yea he probably cracked Fernando Vargas and a lot of other folks with that special tape job b4 he got caught. There's no doubt he had natural leverage. But the way he was being taped, he also had a secret weapon no one knew about. To what extent it helped him, we'll never know. That's why I can never rate him as the best to come out of P.R.
