    well he weighed 146 in his last fight when he could've weighed 147 if he wanted to.

    He's had months to prepare to lose 1 more pound for the weigh in. It shouldn't affect him imo if he prepared properly, which im sure he currently is.

    1lbs is a hell of a lot to lose if u turn up for the weigh in one pund over when u have already drained yourself, but not that much over a period of 3 months

      For a dominican, 1 measely pound is like 2 sprits of gherry curl juice... LOL that "silver back" piss on 24/7 was easily 8 ounces right there...

        Exactly. It is not going to be a problem. It's really annoying to see people defend Mayweather fighting a lightweight but when Manny fights a welterweight one pound below his weigh in for his previous fight, they have a problem.

          With all due respect, that is so simplistic as to be embarrassing. You are comparing your jogging exploits to Miguel Cotto.

          Imagine that you walk around at 160 in great shape. Lean and cut. Because that is what Miguel weighs on fight night.

          Then, you have to get down to 147. So you are not talking about losing two pounds. You are talking about losing your fourteenth and fifteenth pound. Each additional pound becomes incrementally harder.

          Then, you have to fully recuperate to box in about 24-30 hours.

          If you are lean and in shape, tell me what you weigh, and I will draw a linear comparison for you.

            Cotto has had at least 4 months to cut weight. that 1 lb difference in 4 months isnt going to kill him.

            Believe it or not, mayweather didnt make weight because he chose not to. He expected to lose 2lbs on 20 minutes on a treadmill? Fighters dont make weight becuase of horrible time planning. You can easily lose at least 6lbs in a 10 round sparring session. If floyd really was walking around at 150 like everyone claims, 6lbs wouldve been very doable in the 4 months he had. Unless he was lying and he walks around 165+, take your pick.

            Ive had to cut weight before. These guys are doing it for millions of dollars. no excuses.

                    That is the argument that I see most often. But nobody knows what Miguel went through or what the mechanics were.

                    He may have gotten on his hotel room scale and it said 146.5, so he felt ready. And then the official scale said 146. or 146.3, which would register as 146.

                    Miguel could have stayed in the sauna 30 minutes too long. And perhaps that 146 was why he looked lackluster in the ring.

                    Here is a specific example for those weight classes: Paulie Malignaggi has been fighting at 140. And making it regularly. He said that 138.5 was tough to make for Diaz. For the rematch, he was pretty adamant that it be at 140, and only through tough negotiations did they agree to 139.

                    Paulie is about 150 in the ring.

                    In high school, I wrestled. I was walking about at very lean/high school/kinda skinny athlete body at about 176. I was wrestling at 167. So, I would make weight. It was tough because we had day of weigh -ins. By the time they reached our matches, I would have 3-4 hours. Oranges, candy bars and water.

                    Our 178 guy became injured, and i had the wrestle-off and won so i moved up to 178. Now, I could work out and never have to worry about making weight and i was walking around at 180 (growing anyway) and making weight easily at 178. And felt MUCH better.

                    I'm still lean, but couldn't make LHW to save my life.
