Dunno about ego, I think he just wasn't good enough. Post fight he said he did the best he could, and his training camps were great. In fairness he didn't make any excuses (aside from the Ukraine stuff in the ring). I think Fury is knowledgeable enough about boxing (smarter than he looks) not to have underestimated Usyk, but just fell short because he wasn't good enough. It was a fine effort though, can't really fault Fury's performance. Would have beaten 99% of others.

I took a look back at it. Usyk was getting hammered to the body, I was wincing. He knew he couldn't keep taking those shots. Fury is no mug, he would know he was having success there. Usyk adjusted perfectly and that's the beauty of how he operates. You hardly ever ever see boxers stick to their game plans let alone resetting and working things out again, especially after taking punishment.

I think it is the continuation of the "Fury can only defeat himself" BS. Nothing to do with Usyk apparently.

I did not really see him adjust where the uppercut and body was not available. Literally made no sense that he completely stopped going to the body

This is what I mean though. His corner were telling him to stick with the upper cuts. I don't remember hearing Sugar Hill focusing on the body, but obviously we didn't hear everything. Fury is a high high level boxing IQ. The only reason I can think that he stopped going to the body would be that Usyk no longer let him.

Good comment, but I believe Usyk learned more about how to fight Fury than Fury did about how to fight Usyk. I pick Usyk in the rematch in a not as close fight.

If the referee hadn't stepped in the result would have been a prone 10 count.

I've been saying it for years that Fury is overrated, and now he's been well and truly exposed. He's a great heavyweight, but nowhere close to GOAT status like his blind fanboys were making him out to be.

But now Usyk has earned his place among the GOAT boxers. It's an incredible feat for a natural cruiserweight to dominate the heavyweight division. The last time a boxer did that was Muhammad Ali, only because there was no cruiserweight division in his time so Ali was basically a natural cruiserweight dominating heavyweights.

Fury's resume now looks pathetic. Only good fighter he fought, who was half his size, knocked him out on his feet. The rest of his list of opponents is filled with Chisora X3, Wilder X3 (Parker and soon Zhang will show how awful he really is) and the likes of Pinata and Schwarz. That's literally it.

Now he's almost guaranteed to end his career with three losses. Ngannou, Usyk and then AJ/Usyk.

I think it's likely Usyk retires so I'm looking forward to seeing AJ wreck this fraud's legacy forever with a brutal KO.

Can't see a score that has Fury winning, though. By the way, a first-rate fight. High drama from round three on. I wouldn't have blamed the referee had he stopped the fight in round 9. Glad he didn't, though.
I definitely would have blamed him. it would been a Fook up decision that would have ruined what turned out to be a GREAT fight. stop Ref on Boxer crimes of stopping fights early. NO MORE #RefOnBoxerCrime!!!
