Comments Thread For: Hearn Says Joshua Needs to Fight Helenius to Preserve Showdown with Wilder

Too much was on the line for Anthony Joshua to postpone his second fight of the year, according to his promoter Eddie Hearn. The former heavyweight titlist is on track to enter the ring this weekend at London's O2 Arena as scheduled. But instead of Dillian Whyte, he will take on late replacement Robert Helenius, the veteran Finnish contender.

Does AJ only have to fight Helenius or probably beat him in convincing fashion also ?

Josh gets nothing outta this fight win and he should win, beat him down and he is a 39 year old who has seen better days n even those days were not that wonderful. this is filler after a planed and announced fight went sideways with drugs. Even that fight was not a real draw or on a lot of radar before it was shot down. Sorry i lied Josh gets some decent money and is allowed to keep him self talked about on the forums. That is all it does for him. Dont do nothing for a fan looking for a decent fight that is for sure.

If Helenius lasts rounds as a last minute replacement, would be a bad look

I wonder if Wilder will take an interim fight before AJ.

It keeps him active and since wilder just fought helenous, they can use it to build the fight with wilder-AJ, they can argue in the media about who did better with the last common opponent.

it was AJ's decision to still fight rather than cancel and he took a huge pay cut too, i mean it has to be mental some of it, went through an entire training camp and then to just not fight at the end would suck.

There is some risk, the risk is that AJ embarasses himself, he is supposed to run over Helenious and if he doesnt? If it takes him 10 rounds or goes the distance? of helenious has his moments ect it will make AJ look really bad

Josh embarrassed himself in New York City a few years back when he lost to fat boy Ruiz, then he embarrassed himself when he ran around the ring in the rematch. After that he was embarrassed by his own performance and exposure to yousick, then did a double down insult to boxing after Yousick two......Grab the flag act like a child. He has embarrassed himself many times what you speak of is a hope i have of Josh doing it again against a 39 year old nobody, that would be wonderful i will not watch the guy is done. It is all about money and nothing to do with skill he bottomed out long ago. No disrespect but we see this guy a lot dif is how i will put it. I see a bum you see a guy with potential .........enjoy the fight maybe the guy will live up to your or his potential for me he done shot his potential a long long time ago. Oh lets not forget about Franklin i suppose that was some powerful display of a great fighter ? There are great fights and great fighters Josh n Eddie are not a class act......

AJ does not need to fight anyone prior to Wilder, it does not heighten or lessen his star power by not taking the fight, the truth is HEARN needs the fight, he needs an in house I control all the money AJ fight to max out his investment in the event AJ is destroyed by Wilder. Hearn knows Wilder could end AJ's career as AJ already has one foot out the door.

This is a cash grab, however, Eddie's weakness is matchmaking no pun intended, he was dumb enough to put AJ in with a fast handed counter puncher when the Wilder fight was on the line, and now, because he wants to make an extra buck, he puts AJ in with a much bigger threat than Whyte ever was. These UK fans are delusional if they believe Wilder canceling Hellinius means AJ will do the same. AJ and Wilder are two different fighters, one is a monster that is not afraid to take punches, the other is gun shy because he is TERRIFIED to take punches.

This will be a good fight, I think the big boy is a very live dog, especially because he was active LAST weekend and sustained no damage at all. He DEF has the power and the skills to stop AJ brutally.

Explain....if u got concussed in training and didn't postpone a fight u should, u are on your own! No shame loosing to Usyx...OK? WHY DIDNT FURY or Wilder pick USYX first? Daring to be great ain't a wrong move. AJ has best resume in d HW division
