first step up and he looked very vulnerable, if Martin was more aggressive he could've gotten the upset and major derailment for the hype train.

So far Anderson has a good chin.

Impressive in his 15th pro fight after having fought no one close to that level. He needs a couple more years before a championship fight. I’d say another 5-7 fights. Anderson will have to admit to himself that he isn’t a one punch guy and won’t be swatting out the top people, he’s going to have to adjust his style to more of a boxer puncher. He needs to adjust that now. No more trying to swat people out in 1-2 rounds. Learn to pile up points, learn to give angles, learn to jab off the back foot.

Anderson is a good fighter. He may benefit from a weak heavyweight era once the current upper tier of HW's retires, he is only 23 and has a long career. Tonight showed that he doesn't have elite power.....Joshua destroyed a far younger and better version of Martin quickly. Stopping all those cans made Anderson look incredible.

Anderson showed that he is not a killer when a guy who can crack hits him back. He won via activity. But that last big left from Martin may well have led to something spectacular if not for the bell.

Anderson needs to really work on a lot before he moves up in comp. At this stage I'd say AJ and Wilder both KO him, and Fury would gut him. Uzyk outboxes him easily.

Yeah your right. These promoters just wanna rush guys way to quick like he's 23 years old hes got time to still work on things an have fights like this so he's ready for that next level just because he's knocked over a few cans don't mean he's ready for the top fighters. They did the same thing with Dubois even tho Anderson is alot more talented than him but he was a guy who knocking guys over then when they put him in a step up against Joyce who was so much more experienced he got beat up and his orbital bone broke which could of ruined him at 22-23 years old

Anderson kinda reminds me of Spence a little. Style is too based on power boxing. Pulling straight back. Starts with schooling, outside of maybe Shakur this class of Olympians from the 2010's seem to have this basic amateurish style it seem as if they just got into boxing in their teenage years an tend to lack in the versatility department. Usually these guys will get clipped at the top level eventually..

I'd say Spence is abit better with the fundamentals obviously being a smaller guy he will be he uses his jab better an a higher work rate obviously but there are similaritys like you said the working the body and focusing on the power punches and pulling straight back Errol has been caught a few times doing that. It's why I think bud could be a difficult fight for Spence because he's alot more dynamic and is alot more versatile

Agreed. If that is Martin's last fight, it was a good outing for him even though he took home the L. I remember before Anderson last fight I think he was saying how the guy was 34 like he was old and here tonight he was nearly knocked out by a 37 year old..

Anderson comes off as arrogant and dismissive of the sport. Talking about retiring at 27 that's like right around the corner when your 23-24, from what he showed tonight 27 would be just about the age where he should be coming into his own as a more complete boxer. Usyk would absolutely crush this dude..

He may benefit from a weak era but maybe not financially....

The top 4 or 5 heavyweights are all pretty much mid 30s and there doesn't really seem to be any particularly great fighters emerging in the division. But let's say the next era is weaker after those lot retire, the money won't be there in the same way the likes of Fury and AJ generate. Very few fighters generate that kind of money and the next of the heavyweight generation probably won't.

So then you may get promoters rushing their fighters to cash in on the tail end of these heavyweights on their way out in the next couple of years. So they try to rush them through the rankings and they end up getting tonked off someone.

Yeah, that's what I was seeing as Anderson and Spence tend to get caught with the same punches. I think the bigger difference is Spence typically fights smaller men while Anderson isn't really the biggest heavyweight. I think If Spence was at 154lbs where he should be quite frankly, he'd be looking the same getting clipped and hurt by guys his size or larger..
