Comments Thread For: Keith Thurman Says He Expects to Fight In the Summer: 'Your Boy's Gotta Get Back'

Keith Thurman is confident he will have a fight lined up for him this summer after Errol Spence Jr. decided to go a different direction. Last week saw the highly anticipated announcement of the undisputed welterweight championship between WBA, WBC, IBF champion Spence and WBO titlist Terence Crawford. That fight is set for July 29 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on Showtime Pay-Per-View.

Always loved watching Thurman, just wish he would be more active and stay sharp, he’s no spring chicken, but he is talented and has the tools to reach the top again, if he stays healthy

Asked if there was any chance he might appear on the Spence-Crawford card, Thurman demurred.

“Nah, I’ve been a main event fighter for way too long,” he said, adding rhetorically, “When is the last time they stacked a pay-per-view card like that?”

And that in a nutshell is what’s wrong with boxing. They won’t stack a PPV undercard to give fans more value for their money and then on top of that you have delusional fighters like Thurman who don’t do anything…but still think they are big stars.

When he does make his once a year appearance this summer I bet it won’t be against Boots Ennis or someone else dangerous like that. It will be a showcase fight.

The bullcrap in this sport gets so tiring sometimes.

After the Canelo-mayweather fight night (undercard was stacked!!) not sure how they determined this, but i remember reading a report where it stated that spending $$ for a stacked undercard doesn’t improve the PPV buy rate so they’re going to stop spending as much. UFC can afford to do it because they pay their fighters peanuts compared to the PPV revenue. Fighters like Thurman probably want around 1.5-2 mil to fight in PPV undercard, which makes that hard to make up on the back end. I agree with you, this sucks, but the logic makes sense for promoters.
