i know what u mean,.im the same way..i am a big jr fan but he really dissapointed me in the calsloppy fight, i thought for sure he would bring out the roy of old instead of me seeing an "old roy".i don't want to give credit to calsloppy cuz i just don't think he is a great fighter even if he did win against jr and ex. With that said i think he still might have one real big good fight still left in him since roy sr is back in the corner and hopefully he doesnt pull a tarver 3 and just fight to not get knocked out and just hopes to get a big pay day and maybe only half heartedly go thru the motions.. Since its a gbp/jr promoted card..when p-will gets rid of pavlik in december, they will put daniel jacobs vs p-will on the undercard of the ppv and let jacobs see if he can fight with the elite and finally put p-dub on a ppv card even if he aint headlining. Also would be nice to see ortiz vs maidana rematch on the same undercard.then it would be worth the half a bill.more than likely its more wishful thinking than reality ..

I know a lot is mental. I agree you don't have to tell me that. The Lacy argument is weak. Cuz Lacy was never the same after a beatdown. The first fight with Tarver was not a beatdown. It was evenly fought by both men. That RJ actually won. He was never beatdown like Lacy. In the rematch, in the first round it didn't seem like there anything wrong with RJ mentally. He did good that round. In the 2nd he got caught. I don't believe the weight as an excuse for the rematch. And, I don't think there was anything wrong with him in the rematch mentally either. One punch landed maybe it was a lucky punch?

If him and you want the mental excuse for the Johnson KO. I agree and I think is a valid excuse. IF you guys want to have the mental excuse for the third fight with Tarver. Again I agree. I think is a valid excuse in those circumctances. But, for that 2nd fight. IMO all those excuses were not valid. I just think he just got caught. A perfect punch landed, in the perfect time, on the perfect spot.
I'm not saying Lacy is a great barometer, but he did look better than vs Hanshaw. By mentally, I mean that even Roy was seemingly thinking of retirement, and was told to have been down. That saps one's energy levels.

You probably believe he didn't want to beat Tarver in the third fight because he didn't want his dad to get the credit. Do you also believe Hopkins poisoned Tarver Sherlock?
It was said that Roy was down. That has an effect, dummy. When did I ever accuse Bernard of poisoning Tarver?

I'm not that crazy for that fight. Get over yourself. Quit assuming so damn much. I simply stated that it would be a nice tune-up fight for Bernard. A solid fighter, but one that Bernard already beat. Easily, as he put it.

I found this old interview Mackie on btalk. Yall can check the achives to find it 6/12/08. He pretty much talking about Roy saying his body wasn't right etc. Very informative interview.

What happened to Roy Jones when he went back down to light-heavyweight to fight Tarver after you had helped him move up and beat Ruiz for the heavyweight title?

You have to remember Roy is such a talented athlete. The muscle that was put on is very difficult to take off. It was a very tough fight. Draining to anyone but he ended up winning. The same thing happended to Tarver when he did the Rocky movie. He was in the 220s then he came down and he was compromised against Bernard. I would have liked to see Roy stay at heavyweight, and I told him that. I think Roy would have beaten Tyson. I think Roy would have beaten Holyfield, but the fights weren't there. Muscle is not easy to take off, it affects your immune system.

How much did Roy weigh for the Ruiz fight?

                200 lbs.

There was a story circulating he had weights in his pocket and he really weighed 193.

Before we went down for the weigh-in we were all kidding what Roy would weigh. Roy had been in the range of 199-200. What happned was Roy got on the scale and a fight broke out between Alton Merkerson and Ruiz's camp. Mark Ratner who was doing the weigh-in never let the scale adjust because the fight had broke out. I know Mark, and told him that's not his weight you should correct it. When Roy went to the hotel room and got on the scale he was laughing and saying "I can't believe it". He takes his shirt off and steps on the scale, and this is on the documentary ESPN did called "The Sweet Science". Mark Ratner was there too. I told him to call HBO so they wouldn't think it was rebound weight and they mentioned that on the broadcast
