It's funny how it took this fight for everyone to see how far Cortez had declined as a ref.

He was worse when he let Quartey almost kill Bojorquez, and likewise for Williams against Pakau. He was also far too biased in favor of Hopkins in the 3rd Allen fight, after Hopkins threatened to pull out, like Cortez was going out of his way to show that he wasn't anti-Hopkins.

Just rewatched that fight and I forgot how well Ricky did.

After six I had it 4-2 Hatton.

But the real reason Ricky lost is clearly Joe Cortez's sheer incompetence. Not only in the fact that he allowed Floyd to choke Ricky with elbows on the inside, but for failing to see that it was Floyd, not Ricky, doing all the holding.

The point deduction in the 6th was the turning tide, it was here that Ricky's spirit was taken from him upon realizing that Joe was going to screw him.

Mayweather was getting caught easily by left hooks and jabs and was clearly bothered with the pressure.

Joe Cortez needs to be banned from the sport.
