Comments Thread For: Canelo on Critics Calling For Fights at 175: They Want To See Me Lose..

WBC, WBA super middleweight champion Saul "Canelo'' Alvarez is paying no attention to the critics who believe that he needs to face some of the top talents at the light heavyweight limit of 175-pounds - like WBC, IBF champion Artur Beterbiev.

Yeh the ginger one is right, the usual suspects are actively looking for impossible tasks just to see him fail. I’m not a huge Celenelo fan but he is the stand out P4P at the moment.

He has used some shady tactics so he is always favourite but he is working his way through everyone and fights consistently. He will have cleared out super mid by next year, there’s not much to hate about that.

Asking Canelo to face the best in a weight class instead of just cherry picking the weakest belt makes you a hater...

Canelo is wrong. I don’t want to see him lose. I want to see him be forced to use his skills against someone that has a chance to win.

If he fights Charlo, Bieterbiev , Andrade or Bivol I won’t be sitting there rooting for them to win. I will be hoping just to see a great fight.

I want to care about who canelo is fighting like I used to.

This is pretty much word for word what I was about to say.

I think Canelo realises the top boys at 175 is a bit too much of a stretch for him. Yeah he took on Kovalev but the Russian is not what he was. That scalp on his resume sounds good but isn't quite as impressive as it would of been against a prime Kov.

I'm also not a big fan of Canelo but he has already dine more than enough in this sport, not facing those top guys at Light Heavy is no smirch on his career at all.

I have to agree, those that find complaint in him not facing them are just wanting to see him lose.

He has no business at 175 as he’s not big enough. But this is essentially an admission that the only reason he fought Kovalev was because he knew he was damaged goods and compromised in several ways. Canelo has been about finding ways to mi unite risk for years and that was just one example.

That’s true, along with the fact that Kovalev has a bigger name than the other guys at light heavyweight. Canelo shouldn’t have taken that fight if he didn’t want anyone calling for him to stay at 175.

Either way, it was clearly a calculated risk that paid off and I’m guessing he’s not willing to face younger, fresher opponents outside of his comfort zone.

Some might argue that they don’t bring much to the table financially but then Canelo is the sports biggest draw so he will get paid well no matter what.

I am trying to figure out if Mayweather had more haters in his day than Canelo has now. It is close, but I am inclined to say that Mayweather was hated more. This is a movie I have seen before.

This is why people need to stop talking about how much Canelo has "improved". He hasn't proven that and he doesn't want to.
