The Floyd Mayweather, Jr. You Don't Know

by T.K. Stewart - After nearly two years away from the sport of boxing, Floyd Mayweather, Jr. is preparing to make a triumphant return to the arena that has made him famous and wealthy beyond anything he could have once imagined.

For his last three bouts, Mayweather has earned an astronomical $60 million. But it was not that long ago that “Money?as he is now known, shared a bedroom with half-a- dozen of his siblings and lived in a house in a tough neighborhood of Grand Rapids, Mich. A house that often times went for days without electrical service.

These days, most know Mayweather for his brash manner, his boastful ways and over-the-top personality. It is a public persona that easily overshadows the increasingly private, father of four who retired from the sport in 2007. Over the past few years he has managed to become one of the most wealthy athletes in the world. He has helped promote the biggest names in the world of hip-hop music (Lil Wayne, Beyonce, Jay-Z, Mary J. Blige) possesses a fleet of luxury automobiles and now resides behind the tall gates of a $10 million mansion that he recently had built in Las Vegas. [details]

Nobody disses Mr boat buyer on a personal level, or at least they shouldn't. Cats don't like him cuz he won't fight who he should fight. Period. Got nothin to do wit the kind of guy he is beyond boxing.

I would feel guilty having all that money and not doing something like that with it.

Hell I'm not rich and I feel guilty of the lifestyle I have.

I wasn't expecting fluff pieces until a week or so before the fight. It's like how stores start selling Christmas **** in September. What else is going on?

I respectfully agree and don't at the same time. Floyd gets a lot of hate I think when people confuse the Money flashy Mayweather character that exist to help hype fights and make people talk, with the real guy in his personal level. That way more than he did not fight him or the other. It is true that argument exist but I believe is the confusion of the stage character with the actual guy that brings up the hate. I have always seen 3 floyds, the arrogant flashy character, the great boxer, and the familly guy whom private life is not my business, but wish him well as for anyone else.

Pretty sure Floyd is cool dude away from cameras especially with common folks. ODLH, for all his squeeky clean image, can be a **** away from cameras from what I hear...especially with common people that he's "big-timed." It's all image, but that's moot point.

Honestly, anybody who's wealthy and has a good accountant, is encouraged to do philanthropic projects. There's tax write offs that will earn money back. Manny Pacquiao doing all those projects in Philippines? Well he is running for political office, you don't think that has some part of it? Just saying.

Look I appreciate any boxer doing charity, but it's also not cool when you have to brag about it. I appreciate Ellerbe bring this up, but who cares? If your gonna give it, give it. You don't need my pat on the back.

Im sorry but if you are on tv constantly talking about your money and flashing it and talking about how much your worth, then constantly disrespect your opponents or anyone who is on top. You cant just turn around and say wait a minute thats not really me thats just for business.

Im sure everything mayweather has done for charities is great and all but he can still be an *******, a big one at that

In fairness though mang, some guys do try to strip Floyd down cause of his personality.
