Ellerbe is getting paid by Mayweather to do public relation and of course he'll tell all those bull crap about floyd. I'm not convince that Floyd is all that but an arrogant mofo.

The only problem I have with this article is that is is based on the assumption that his public persona is just a ruse to make money in a business based on entertaining the public. That's all fine, but who says that Mayweather wouldn't be richer if his public persona was the same as his supposed private personas? Yes, he probably would not get millions for appearing as the "bad guy" at WWE but just like De La Hoya, he would probably be more beloved among a larger swath of the general public if he presented himself as a kid from tough circumstances that has overcome a lot and opted to give back to those less fortunate. Maybe then he would have a more loyal following willing to see him fight instead of basing his fortunes on an audience that is often paying to hopefully see him lose. He chose to become "the bad guy." He did this either because he though he'd get richer doing it, in which case those close to him have no reason to complain, or because it dovetails with who he actually is.

His friend may complain about his bad rep but in the end actions speak louder than words, and the image of Mayweather "making it rain" is not fake. If fact it is very real and it fits in perfectly with a Mayweather that often speaks in terms of dollars and cents and little more. When you come out and say that you fight for money not for the fans then I don't know how you can complain about people not taking your more compassionate side more seriously.

But whatever, as some other poster stated my biggest beef with Mayweather is purely based on his choice of opponents. Don't get me wrong, I hope he continues to give back and does even more to help those around him but in terms of boxing I just want him to face the toughest opposition out there instead of pricing himself out and then claiming that he is the GOAT.

thats so dumb....lol.. he is still an athlete and should fight the best out there instead of claiming to be the best EVER with out proving it..

ok, for one Mayweather tried the nice guy persona, it made him no money. At this time he was calling out and fighting the best in the divisions he fought in. He was dodged by a lot of guys because he was not a money maker. He found a way to be a money maker, and at the same time found a way to fight other money makers, and yet still at the same time was considered the best in the sport P4P. This is why I appreciate Floyd, he pulls no punches, he doesn't pretend that he fights to please anyone, he just fights so he can retire one day. The funny thing is his fighting pleases fans like me, I like to see a living legend fight. I feel I'm smart enough to know that I am seeing a living legend and can appreciate his talent. Sorry for some of the other so called fans that just look for ways to discredit him, in the end he will be considered an all time great rather you like it or not.

Im sure everything mayweather has done for charities is great and all but he can still be an *******, a big one at that
I don't buy the idea that someone can be an ass, give money to charity, then be considered a nice guy. Bragging about your money all the time and talking trash about every potential opponent is not someone who should be looked up to as a person. Yes, he's a great figther (one of the best all-time), but don't feed us this "He's a great guy, you just don't know him crap." He takes only low risk, high reward fights which is a sign of his character. He may be good for boxing because of the buzz he creates, but someone who claims "America is about contraversy" on his 24/7 program doesn't deserve the title of great guy.

Jeeeez. A jerk with money can afford to give away money but it doesn't make him less of a jerk but just a jerk with lesser money. You don't help other people to get credit ellerbe. That is just so sad begging for credit and appreciation for what you do. It makes people question the motive of his giving in the first place. Just help people without expecting anything in return man. If you want to be known as a nice guy it's simple, stop being a jerk.

I don't think that is what he meant my friend. Only that people who are getting paid are going to try and shine the brightest light on their employer.
