what is the fine line between quiting and ring death??

i mean when do fans say thats enough??or like jim lampley would say"go down,go down"when have we as fans seen enough where we dont call it quiting???ortiz fight was str8 up quiting..but in the cotto-margo fight i dont think thats quiting..cotto was in danger of being seriously damamged....oscar=quiting..so how do we determine this????is it ok to quit when you are swollen, bloody and beaten???is it ok to quit cause you think you shouldve have to get hit??please explain my fellow posters

I think its the ref/doc's job to stop the fight. If somebody is getting badly beaten, it's up to them to stop it.

true i guess but sometimes a fighter keeps fighting back like the warrior they are so the ref wont stop it...

Fighters should not quit end of story. There is a referee there, a trained professional which for the most part knows when a fighter has had enough.

Also Tony Weeks wnted Oscar to get KOed.

If the ref doesn't stop somebody from being really hurt, they shouldn't be doing that job. Whether somebody is trying to fight back or not, if they are taking a bad beating they should stop it. Or even the corner should throw in the towel.

Quitting is not acceptable IMO. These fighters are being paid huge money and between their corners, the ref and the doctor theres plenty of people there to make sure they are fine. Cotto was nowhere near death he'd simply ran out of gas and didn't know how to survive.

It all depends on the ref. That and who is a true warrior.
Cotto is a warrior. He took that beating for 5 rounds (6-11). No one else would take a beating like that. Put anyone in that danger and they would have either quit or been knocked out. Cotto took knees cause he needed to if he wanted to try and win. and **** he almost pulled it out. Look at Gatti Ward Larry. Those were serious beatings they both took and so was the Barrera Morales fights. Those 4 are true warriors. Those warriors are Blood, Guts and Glory!

i dont get the hate against quitting, as long as you gave a good fight before quitting, or tried hard at least, before quitting, if you run around then quit with the first hard punch, then yeah, youre just a fraud, but if you gave it a shot and have had enough, you should know your limits.........this is a dangerous sport, you saw what hapened to marco nazareth, for trying even though he couldnt win and was getting his ass beat.....rip
