The line here for me is basically shown in the Ortiz and Cotto situations. Victor Ortiz was winning the fight, had scored three knockdowns, but had started to face adversity and couldn't handle it. Cotto had given everything he could, and it would have affected his health very badly if he went on another two rounds taking punishment. It basically comes down to the question of whether a fighter's health is affected.

When you're losing and taking a beating somebody should stop it one way or the other.

The Angulo vs Tsurkan fight is a good example.

This is a very relative subjectSometimes quitting give the fighter a chance to bounce back (Israel Vazquez for example), some others just lack of heart, and there's cases where the fighter kept fighting and somehow win the fight.

This one was a weird case.

Something like Lacy-Calzaghe should have been stopped. No matter what you say, Lacy hasn't been the same since he looked better in his pro debut than against Griffin.

Gatti-Mayweather should've been stopped sooner etc. Sometimes the ref is too slow or doesn't act at all.

i dont get the hate against quitting, as long as you gave a good fight before quitting, or tried hard at least, before quitting, if you run around then quit with the first hard punch, then yeah, youre just a fraud, but if you gave it a shot and have had enough, you should know your limits.........this is a dangerous sport, you saw what hapened to marco nazareth, for trying even though he couldnt win and was getting his ass beat.....rip

The refs and the cornermen has got this, from the people who has the third person point of view. The losing boxer has a vague sense of what is really going on and so is the other boxer. It's like chess for me, i always seem to know what to do if i am watching but knows **** when i'm playing.

It all depends on the ref. That and who is a true warrior.
Cotto is a warrior. He took that beating for 5 rounds (6-11). No one else would take a beating like that. Put anyone in that danger and they would have either quit or been knocked out. Cotto took knees cause he needed to if he wanted to try and win. and **** he almost pulled it out. Look at Gatti Ward Larry. Those were serious beatings they both took and so was the Barrera Morales fights. Those 4 are true warriors. Those warriors are Blood, Guts and Glory!

I will just go with this, Yes probably up to the ref and the warrior. And fans usually want a ref who wont make premature stoppages leaving somekind of lousy controversy but then if the ref doesnt stop it and lets the people see a good k.o then the ref is an awful person for letting that happen I guess some refs just really know how to be that fine line kinda like Steve Smoger just a good ref.
