July 4, 3:47 PM
Nate Campbell (AP Photo) It's the fourth of July here in America and fireworks will fly and light up the star-spangled skies tonight as the greatest country in the world celebrates it's Independence Day. As a treat for all of you fight fans, I was fortunate enough to get a hold of former unified lightweight champion Nate "The Galaxxy Warrior" Campbell and some fireworks were also unleashed as we talked about comments his trainer John David Jackson had made about the sport's best fighter Manny Pacquiao, avoiding African-American boxers.
Nate who will be joining Pacquiao and the talented crop of boxers at the 140 pound division, will be facing WBO junior welterweight champion Timothy Bradley in Bradley's backyard at the Agua Caliente Casino in Rancho Mirage over at the Palm Springs area in Southern California. The event will be promoted by Gary Shaw Productions and Thompson Boxing Promotions in association with Don King Productions and Agua Caliente Casino • Resort • Spa. Tickets go on sale July 3, at 10 a.m. (PT) and will be available for purchase online at or by calling (800) 585-3737.
In this exclusive part 2 of my interview with Nate last night, I asked Nate for his thoughts about a comment his trainer John David Jackson had made in the past, as reported by our San Francisco Boxing Examiner Colin Seymour, that the current consensus Pound-4-Pound best fighter in the world Manny Pacquiao has avoided African-American boxers. Nate also made it known that he will stake his claim and prove that he is the best 140 fighter in the game.
Enjoy!

D Source - Now let’s talk about some other fights out there. Can you share us your thoughts on Mayweather against Marquez?
Nate Campbell – Uhmm… I’m really more concerened about my fight. I’m not even concerned about their fight.
D Source – Alright. Let’s talk about your trainer, John David Jackson. Tell us how working with him is going right now.
Nate Campbell – Always a pleasure working with John. From the day I walk in the gym, to the day I leave, I’m always learning something from John David.
D Source – Mr. Jackson had mentioned something in the past regarding another 140-pounder in Manny Pacquiao. He had made a comment about Pacquiao avoiding African-American boxers. Can you give us any comments about that?
Nate Campbell – I think John made the comment. I mean, think it was a good comment. You tell me one African-American fighter he’s (Pacquiao) fought. I mean, you can check the record. We don’t care about African fighters. We said African-American fighters. And I had a lot of fans like… “Well name any African-American fighters that are big enough to make a fight with him.” That’s not true. That’s not true. There’s been many fighters that were big enough to make a fight with him, but at the end of the day, it is what it is. The record says what it says.
D Source – And with his upcoming fight looking like Miguel Cotto when he could have chosen somebody like you or Shane Mosley…
Nate Campbell – Because he can’t dry me out for nothing! The thing with the Manny Pacquiao thing is that he’s allowed to fight in these insane catch weights and no one else I allowed to fight at these catch weights. How can you take away the weight class, the weight limit, and then say it’s for the title. I mean, I’m just asking the question. I’m posing the question.
D Source – Who do you think is the best in the 140 division right now?
Nate Campbell – I am. I’m here to prove I’m the best 140 pounder in the world. Without a doubt.
D Source - Right on, right on… And in parting, do you have any messages to your fans out there? Any announcements?
Nate Campbell – I just want to thank my fans for supporting me and loving me and always sticking by me. Whenever I’m leaving, I’ll be eternally grateful and I always did my very best.
D Source- Absolutely. Thank you Nate. We’ll see you at the Agua Caliente on August 1st. Good luck! And stay healthy alright?
Nate Campbell – Thanks man. Thank you.
D Source – Thank you champ.
Nate Campbell – Alright bye.
