Nacho is drinking the pac-man kool-aid, period. Why people think Paq is going to KO Cotto is completely beyond me. Can Paq win, certainly but it isn't going to be by a KO. We can start by looking at Paq's last three fights, (Diaz, De La Hoya, Hatton) all of them were marketing fights and nothing more. I'm not saying that Paq doesn't have the right to face Mayweather competition because he's faced the best of the best already and deserve the chance to build his name. However, none of the these guys were a threat to Paq with the exception of De La Hoya and that was before most people say exactly what Oscar was going to come in at which was expected to be 160ish.
Paq, would never have done what he did to Diaz had he faced Baby Bull Diaz, I still think he would have won but not in the fashion he did. He "passed" a real thread ala Mayweather. Next he went on to Oscar which I never gave Paq a chance because of the size, and he proved me wrong and I give him credit for that, but Oscar's never won any of his big fights. He gives your great fights, but rarely wins the big ones except for an over the hill Chavez and iffy Quartey win. Mosley, Trinidad, Hopkins all loses all of his biggest fights I'd say.
And Hatton... he's one of the most overrated big names in the sport. Sure, he did okay with Mayweather at first but all the guy does is run in without the use of a jab whatsoever, he was a strong guy in a weak division for all his career that he dominated. The fight after Mayweather I missed but heard he looked like garbage and got lucky, the fight with Paulie I think he looked improved but was still total junk. And right before the bell rang with the Paq fight I told the 7 or 8 people at my house watching the fight, I hope it lasts more than 3 rounds because I just paid $60 for this fight and look what happend. Its not that I'm upset about the money its just that Paq and Top Rank picked fights to build Paq which there is nothing wrong with but people fell into this facade of Paq that he's invincible, he's not. JMM, need I say more?
These 3 fights Paq was never hit with a solid punch because of weak opposition. In his fights with Marquez, who isn't even that great a puncher, Paq got rocked. Cotto is a far bigger man than JMM and has much more power. Which brings me to Cotto. People hate him or love him and think he is the best or the biggest crock in boxing... and why people think this are the same exact reason.
Cotto fights people who push him to his limits, these people show and bring out Cotto's flaws yet time and again he manages a win. He may not look dominant like Paq did in his last three fights but that is because he's put up there with the hardest bouts for him, the elite of his division some of whom are the elite in boxing (Mosley, Margarito.) Cotto's entire career has been built like this, he's been hurt, rocked, and down in his fights because of his opposition they bring out the worst in him which brings out the best of him.
People who don't like Cotto for some reason, see this as him being a "bad" fighter which makes no sense to me along with people saying he "fades" in fights... He faded badly in one fight and that was a questionable fight against Margarito. He was completely in shambles in the Judah fight at which point he turned up the heat in the later rounds along with a lot of his other fights pre-Judah where most of his Ko's came in the 9th or later. Against Mosley he didn't fade, he switched up his gameplan as he realized that Mosley figured out a way to win the rounds with Cotto coming forward, once Cotto went to full on boxing he lured Mosley in and started winning the last few rounds again. Its not "running or tiring" its called strategy, a boxer/fighter doesn't need to stick to just one style his entire career to be defined as great people.
Look at Trinidad for the longest time he was unstoppable, then people figured it out that all he did was come forward and you could beat him with good defense and countering. Cotto himself may have learned from this and realized that he needed to try something to change up his aggressive style as with a lot of his bouts prior he got hurt and just kept coming forward. He realized that he doesn't have a Margarito type chin and can't just keep coming forward because he keeps getting caught no matter who it is. Corley, Torres, Judah all fights he was badly badly hurt.
What does all this have to do with the topic at hand? Nacho is hoping Cotto doesn't win because he couldn't beat Paq with what he had and he doesn't want to look bad, though, he looked pretty ****ty with how he brought along De La Hoya. Roach even stated in an interview, can't remember where I saw it but he mention that when he was training Oscar for the Mayweather fight, that Oscar had no idea how to cut off the ring and that all he did was follow his guy around. De La Hoya had the same exact problem with Paq, and its not a problem Cotto will have no matter how fast Paq is. Cotto isn't the strongest guy out there, but he's also not the slowest. In fact, he's probably one of the faster opponents Paqs had to face. And although as I said he's not the strongest guy out there he definitely the strongest one Paq's ever had to face.
Finally, about the KO in 6. Its not going to happen. It took Paq 11 to K.O. Diaz, he didn't K.O. De La Hoya even though he was completed drained and his KO against Hatton... who can't KO Hatton, honestly? The guy's terrible health regime in between fights caught up to him, you can't be jumping in weight like that and not expect it to have some sort of affect on you. I don't hate Paq, I respect the guy more than anything he deserved to build his name and pick his fights, he's earned it. What I am saying, however, is that look at more than just his pass 3 fights just like people should do with Cotto. A fighters career should have more bearing on his performance vs what he has done recently. Oh, and one more thing about Cotto having a weak chin... the man has never lost by getting K.O'd his corner threw in the towel against Mr. Hand Wraps. He was never hurt against Mosley, the same man who KO'd Mr. Hand Wraps and aside from Margarito fight I don't think he has ever been down at 147.
