He's earned the right to go where he wants?

Unlike most fighters he isn't in it for just the money & fame. He's in it for his country, for his people. He's a symbol of hope, no amount of money can buy you that kind of accalation.
This is a very good post. Green K on the way. edit--have to spread it around before giving to you again.

Pacquiao has all the money he ever needs, some people really aren't that money hungry where they want more and more and more (Floyd). Pac doesn't need anymore money, and he has a family that he wants to spend time with. We should command Pac for choosing family over money in a world where seemingly less and less would make the same decision.

Sponsorship is about values.People will only sponsor Pac if their brand is not going to be hurt and the media has everything to do with it in this regard. If the media decides not to write about Pacquiao or write negative stuff about him he will lose most of the sponsorship.

Marketing's mostly about the 4ps,price,product,place and promotion. The value is enhanced in all those 4ps and promotion is very important. The media will **** you up like Floyd Mayweather. It was difficult for him to get endorsements because of the way the media portrayed him, that is why some people will hire PR consultants to turn things around.Pacquio is considered to be very good as a sportsman but he is liked and the media portrays him as a rags to riches guy who is still humble despite success.Cast in some arrogance and his stock goes down.

If Pacquio doesnt go he's ****ed up,he cant claim sickness now,it's too late.He should have put it in better fashion, something like 'unfortunately he will not travel because he has had a virus, nothing serious ,his doctor advised him to rest just for a few days'

Well... looks like its all downhill from here guys... sad to say he probably loses which ever fight he takes next against the odds of Mayweather, Cotto, or Mosley... I don't see how he can even compete with those three. But since its Pac I will always watch no matter who he is up against..
I agree with you and he's under pressure.Reality is probably catching up now.The guy is in an onerous contract and the problem is Arum does not protect his fighters. He will put you up with someone he knows will beat you.Imagine Pacquiao has to face Cotto,Mosley or Mayweather. All the talk about being the best ever, you think twice.

It's downhill now from here and there is friction already, let's hope he doesnt take a 2 year absence

Manny can do whatever he wants, but there will be certain consequences especially with how he is covered in the states most likely. I do not know if he really understand the situation on that level, or if he does and doesn't care.

This is the type of thing that can switch the media from build up mode to tear down mode (and the media loves to tear people down).

LOL. Tear him down because he chose to spend a week with his family after winning the biggest fight of his life instead of traveling to NY for media obligations? You are one nasty delusional bastard.

It's very easy to tear people down, they will just use his personal life.Something like 'he's a wife beater' or some other moonshots. This guy doesnt understand how lucky he is to have such a relationship with the media.HE's acting in a completely ignorant fashion. The media attention is why Nike are sponsoring him,it is the exposure he brings and the recognition. This is why 24/7 always emphasises Manny's faith and humility, they are trying to connect him to the people.

Public relations is hardly understood in some quarters.

Does the media love to tear down those that they build up? Yes or no?

Has the media been building up Pacman? Yes or No?

I could care less if Manny goes to New York or not, but to think that all the writers would overlook a snub like that is to me ludacris.

Manny may have his personal reasons for not showing up.

Maybe the fame and fortune and demands for his time have probably caught up to him, and he just wants to have some time to relax with his fams for a while. Or he might be having important family issues he needs to deal with. Who knows at this time?

It is, no doubt, a well deserved and prestigious award.

He can also get on a conference call with the media and explain his situation.

I'm sure they can reschedule a later date for the event.

At the very least, they can stream his acceptance of the award from his home via satellite if that's what it'll take.

Pac should do what he wants. Time is an asset that you can't buy back. If he feels like spending more time with his loved ones then he should. The media won't be there for him when his boxing career is finished. Also, Pac just doesn't want to show up at the Cotto-Clottey fight. He wants to fight the Mayweather-Maquez winner but Arum is trying to convince him to fight Cotto. If Arum cared about Manny as a human being he would let the man take time to play with his children. Look at the Tyson situation, I’m sure Mike would give the world to spend one more minute with his late daughter. So let Manny spend time with his family as he wants.
