Yeah i think he should have tried to tough it out for the rest of the fight, but if that arm injury is true it would be hard to not quit. He made up for it in the Lewis fight though, he most likely would have won if he didn't have that horrific cut.

Vitali didnt even need to throw the left as Byrd wasnt even catching him with much all he had to do was keep out the way for the last couple of rounds, Danny Williams showed more heart when his arm fell off but anyway it was probably a smart move on Vitali's part as Lacy had the same injury carried on for 6 rounds and now cant throw a left hook anymore.

Vitali was completely dominating Byrd, it was a freak injury. Vitali proved the critics wrong and redeemed himself against Lennox Lewis, he showed an iron chin and a big heart in that slugfest war.

I dont really know the extend of Vitali's injuries so i cant judge him, But am sure he would have finish the fight if those 2 rounds or so left wouldnt have any effect on his career down the line.
