Timothy Bradley Given an Ultimatum By The WBC

What these sanctioning bodies do to the boxers (and the fans) kind of reminds me of the famous dialog from the movie "Goodfellas."
It's like these organizations are basically saying to the fighters, "**** you, pay me." The second it's not profiting them directly, it's like they want to punish the boxers.

Fist off, I've read everything and yes, the sanctioning bodies shouldn't have this much control over a fighters title belts (even if that's their job)
to let Bradley unify the titles in the first place (without getting stripped before hand was shocking enough)
but giving him an ultimatum of "pick one title and dump the other" is just ridiculous, he should be allowed to keep both.
which brings me into the comment below, and my take on it.
Originally posted by raycorey View PostI dont think this has alot to do with who Bradley is TBH, The samething has been done to Calzaghe in the past, Naz in the past and many other boxers..

**However instead of forcing Bradley into keeping one belt, why not make some money out of it, and if T-Brad doesn't want to defend his WBC belt right away, make an Interim WBC Super Lightweight Champion?
rather then stripping Bradley outright.
but it's still a dumb scenario as the Sanctioning Org's reputation isn't that good to begin with .. and doing a thing like this (making Bradley chose 1 belt) doesn't help any.Last edited by MJ406; 04-09-2009, 07:28 AM.

It's the economy ******!
Not only the fighters are feeling it but now everyone else involved (pormoters & santioning boides). Boxers learned that with the current situation you can not command the millions you did on previous years becuase people are not dishing out as much for $1000 tickets or $50 PPV. So the total purses are going down as so is the % the santioning bodies are talking home.
A couple of years back, the santioning bodies tried to fool us by creating super champions and champions emeritus in an effort to keep a single champion from hi******* the belt for an entire year thus creating no revenue. But I guess in not working anylonger, so the true strategy - and there should be a memo somewhere - is let's prevent unification and keep our champion defending at least 3 times a year.
Regardless, the santioning bodies have become a joke and there is little respect out there for their methods of actually ranking boxers - we all know that it's more politics than skills. But I also understand that for a fighter, it's important to become a recognized champion and command enogh money to make a living out of it. But reformed in needed in the sport.... I second Teddy Atlas in the need for a national commission to oversee rules and regulations.

Like I keep on saying, having a belt now at days is meaningless. The WBC got the sactioning fees from the unification and now wants to strip Bradley. The are speculating that the boxer they have in mind once the title is vacated is gonna fight and win the title to charge higher fees. I know its a business but there has to be some type of integrity.
I do believe that the number 1 contender has to get a shot but sometimes there are not deserving of their rankings. Fans know what meaning certain fights have regardless if there is a belt or not.
