I thought about that too, but I would say Wales is closer to England than a Russian fighting in Australia and the States...especially a Soviet breed fighter fighting in the States.

in his 14th fight , kostya won a major world title against what ring ****zine ranked as the 3rd best fighter in the division.

calzaghe won a vacant belt for a what was then a minor boxing org against a shopworn fighter who hadn't been ranked at 168 for a couple of years.

kostya was fighting solid comp at the beginning of his career. that's why he was ranked in the top 10 at 140 in his first year as a pro after only 6 fights.

after only 3 years as a pro kostya tszyu cracked the top 10 of ring's p4p list.

joe didn't even get any recognition 'til about 2-3 years ago. that's how bad his competition was.
