Kessler's hand was fine, that is a myth as confirmed by him in the after fight interview which I have on DVD where he was directly asked about his hand and he said it was totally fine.

Calzaghe's ability to adjust his style to beat his opponent is the big reason why he beat Kessler that night. It was a great performance by Calzaghe.
The jury's still out on Kessler for me. Yes, i think he's skilled and has good fundamentals but who has he beat? No one really? Until he beats a big name at 168-175, he'll get nothing from me.
He gets overrated by many on here! Mostly by Calzaghe fans which is no surprise.

Glad to see the majority are in agreement with me on this one so far.
I like Mikkel, he's a nice enough guy, and he's got a solid technical style that I enjoy. But the truth is, he hasn't fought anybody of much substance yet, aside from Calzaghe, and he lost that fight.
The jury is out on Kessler until he fights a name opponet.

A solid good win, and one which I think and hope will grow over time as hopefully Kessler picks it up a gear next year and gets some good wins.
Mikkels hand injury wasn't the reason he could not physically position his feet, body and hands correctly to land in the latter part of the fight.
More sparring with the same guys wouldn't have helped significantly enough either.
He lost the fight on tactics, not having a plan b, let alone a plan c. He said the same himself. He loses again for the same reasons. Calzaghe is faster, more versatile, active, takes his hardest shots, and for every possible change Kessler makes (he's not proven he can make many yet even) Calzaghe always has a better answer in adapting.
The fight showed Kessler is unlikely to KO Calzaghe as he still somehow landed some of his hardest shots ok for awhile, but Joe was un phased. So how exactly does Mikkel win a re match when Joe doesn't waste a few rounds sussing his opponent like he often does, 2nd time around?Last edited by Kris Silver; 03-13-2009, 05:59 PM.
