Antonio Margarito's Legacy on The Line, Says Steward

Hall of Fame trainer and HBO broadcaster, Emanuel Steward, told the New York Post that Antonio Margarito's legacy is on the line with the controversy surrounding his hand wraps for last Saturday's bout with Shane Mosley. The California State Athletic Commission is examining two hard blocks of gauze that were found in Margarito's wraps before he stepped in the ring against Mosley. ****m Richardson, Mosley's trainer, first noticed the stiff nature of the wraps when he requested to feel one of Margarito's hands. Both Richardson and Mosley's lawyer, Judd Burstein, saw what they believe to be a "plaster-like" material on both blocks of gauze. [details]

If the commision deems what what was going on Margarito's hands was illegal and was giving him a advantage, his legacy will always be questioned and especailly his win over Cotto.

It is. If he's found guilty of havin done this before, he loses his rep, his fans, some $, and probably his license, at least for a while.

props to Richardson for being aware and looking out for his fighter. More trainers should start asking more questions about hand wraps instead of feeling like it would be a hassle to do so. Smart move

uhm, i think these media guys should really wait a bit for the truth to be told before speaking like that. If this gets certified as the cheat it looks like, then yes Margarito and his corner made a terrible thing and they must pay, but it could turn out like a misunderstanding really, maybe it was just pressed wet gauze, but without plaster substance. Id wait the facts before painting a guy gulty in front of the boxing world

*** Margarito and his fans, they have to cheat to beat a true Puerto Rican warrior like Miguel Cotto.
