Personally I think Mosleys power is very different to Cottos, Cotto is heavy handed no doubt but he doesn't knock you clean out he brutalises you and beats you up. Mosleys power punches are very fast and Heavy and land often in bunches from lots of angles which means you have a split second to recover before the next punch lands. Mosley never gave Margarito that breathing room where he could clear his head. His power is concussive whereas Cottos isn't.

Cotto would land heavy combos and step away Mosley would land heavy combos and continue to press forward and pound Margarito.

he never cracked it, but hard punchers like Cotto getting free shots at your chin softens it, you know this.

Most will refer to the affect that Margo's loss of weight might have had before the fight.

But it may have also been the psychological impact on Margo after being accused of foul play with the wraps.

the conclusion i've come to is that Cotto's power at 147 is overrated.

I don't believe that for a second, Cintron landed some hellacious right hands in both fights so did Clottey. Yet when he faced Cotto he was fine.

I think it had everything to do with Mosley.

Margarito Rehydrated to 160 which he normally does so I don't think it affected him that much

maybe because of the extra power of margarito cotto was afraid to back margarito up and exchange with him? cotto was fighting on the back foot so he couldnt get all his power into his shots.

Good points - Cotto fought the wrong fight - Mosely fought the perfect game plan. Cotto was throwing combos with the intent to move away - Mosely was throwing combos with the intent to move forward - makes a HUGE difference in power and punishment. Mosely clinched and tied him up when he had to - Cotto did not clinch 1 time.

Although Cotto tagged that ass - it didn't have the authority and "hip rotation" that Mosely displayed. Finally, aside from Mosely's speed, he's a bigger welterweight than Cotto which makes difference when fighting a dude as big as Margarito.

Mosely is the the man - and I have much more respect for Cotto for being able to take Mosely's right hand all night and still come out on top.

Maybe.... but I saw a more determined fighter and taking punches better when he faced Cotto. By the end of the night, he took massive shots from Cotto and his chin didn't hold up last night, could it be caused by accumulation or was it just Mosley? Mayorga has a soften chin and took everything Mosley had to offer until last sec of the 12, Cotto took his best shots too. Coincidence? Watch the Cotto fight again...

pretty amazing then that Cotto was able to take Mosely's best shot and still win.
