Brendon Smith, trainer of Michael Katsidis, doesn't feel that Manny Pacquiao has the right style to beat Ricky Hatton on May 2. Pacquiao is being picked by many as the favorite to win. Many of those who back Pacquiao are basing their pick on Manny's one-sided wipeout of Oscar De La Hoya. [details]

I'm basing my pick not only on the Oscar fight, but the brutalization of Barrera back in 2003 and the Diaz fight too. I rarely, if ever, bet against Manny.
Anyway, Katsidis is just after a pay day.
And Kostya is nothing like Pac.

I'm basing my prediction of a Pacquiao win on my observation that Hatton has a suspect chin. Anyone who gets that badly hurt by light punchers like Luis Collazo and Juan Lazcano is in for a long night with a puncher like Pacquiao. Hatton's not got much defense, and I can see Pacquiao landing hard, straight lefts on Ricky's face as he comes in. I figure that anyone who can punch should be able to beat Hatton at this point. That's why Malignaggi was a good choice of opponent. Any other elite-type fighter around that weight class has a great chance to knock him out. I'd also include lightweights like Nate Campbell, junior welters like Ricardo Torres, and welters like Judah, Cotto, Margarito, Williams, Clottey, maybe Berto all to KO Hatton.

why do these fools underestimate Manny. They treat him like he's a one punch journey man who only leads with his head. Manny in reality has every skill in the book, he's quick as hell, unorthadox and has tons of pop w/ a very high workrate.
If Pacquiao was this pathetic Barrera would have brutalized him.

I respect this guy's opinion as it's what I thought about as well when thinking about this fight. The only thing is, I also think about what everyone else mentioned in that Manny moves a lot, he's very elusive, and Roach is a genious at putting together fight plans that seems like only Manny can execute properly. They know what they'll be up against. They know Hatton might be his usual hit and hold style so they will once again incorporate a lot of movement and turning to make sure Hatton can't get set to do his leap and hook or leap hit and hold. Manny could easily break Hatton down but I do think it'll be more competitive because Hatton does bring along his own marching band to everyfight with him which definitely has to help him get through the fights.
