I voted Cotto's opponents. But, I don't think its fair to say Floyd ducked this person and that person in regards to the Baldo fight because it was the right thing to do for his career. An easy way to become the lineal champ happened to fall right into his lap...and he validated it by still fighting Judah who most agree just lost focus(naturally) against Baldo.

But Quintana, and even that version of Shane were better fighters and the wins are physically more impressive, so for the topic at hand, I went with Cotto's opponents.

That's questionable because that decision to fight Baldo instead of Margarito haunts Floyd till this day. He got severely criticized for taking that fight, along with his lackluster performance against an extremely limited fighter. What exactly did it do for his career besides being able to say that he was once the WW lineal champ of the world? Once his opponent comes into question, it kind've discredits that accomplishment.

PBF was completely expected to win those 2 fights. Cotto was given a chance to lose either and had to prove himself.

But being able to say you're the lineal champ of the world is a pretty big deal....

And not fighting Margarito doesn't effect him that much unless he reads the boxingscene boards. I mean, I'm a Cotto fan but criticizing Floyd for not takin that fight and fighting Baldo instead means you can criticize Cotto for fighting Jennings for the vacant WBO belt when Williams in all likelihood would have fought him. Can't have that double standard ya know

Depends on who you beat for the title. Quality of opponent >>> Title.

Floyd was not coming off of a devastating loss when he chose to face Baldomir instead of the bigger threat/challenge in Margarito. No double standard there. Cotto is scheduled to take on the man who delt him his first loss. No shame in taking a tune-up bout after suffering a loss such as the one Cotto suffered.

he WAS hurt but not knocked out yet it's just he got up so fast to.. I don't know, I guess prove that he wasn't hurt knowing damn well he was? anyway it caused him to fall again making it look a lot worse than what he felt, he was still competent and responding verbally and mentally but being that he didn't give himself enough time for the punch Tszyu landed to resolve and to gather himself he just jumped on unsteady legs causing his legs to give out.. regardless 1 punch don't compare to 11 rounds of THAT kind of punishment.

I mean man I'm a die-hard Cotto fan, I just think some of the hate Floyd gets is unjust. Being undisputed WW champ is a big deal regardless of who you beat to get it. Point taken that quality of opponent is a huge deal, but if your the undisputed champ your running ****, it's a big deal. You know Cotto or any other Welter would do the same exact thing Floyd did, to us hardcore fans we want to see the best fights, but to most people being able to say your the undisputed champ and p4p#1 is pretty much the pinnacle.

I agree that I dont have much of a problem with Cotto fighting Jennings cause of what you said, the loss he's coming off of. But Floyd fighting Baldo was totally validated. If Judah didn't lose the Baldo, and Floyd just beat Judah we wouldn't be having this conversation. But Floyd still fought and beat Judah, a fight he in no way had to take. He gets respect points for that.

I definitely think Floyd should have taken on better Welter's I'm totally with you on that, I just don't think the whole Baldomir thing makes him a *****. I think it doesn't help his resume when you look at quality of opposition, but it was a no-brainer of a decision.
