It panned out more or less the way I expected it to, although I didn't foresee Calzaghe going down.

I knew Jones would be very competitive for the first half of the fight and he was. Jones looked pretty sharp and was countering well, but a combination of failing stamina and his cut made the second half into a beating.

No, he sucks. No heart whatsoever. Not an alltime great.

I don't think Roy fought scared this time. I think he just didn't have the stamina and reflexes to deal with joe at this stage.

yo this is what happens to all great fighters......he looked like ali vs berbrick and ray leonard vs camacho...its time for him to call it quits and the reason y he couldnt counter last nite was because that speed and reflexs are gone....he would have made hop look the same way but hop is defensive first.

I agree. Roy is an ATG, and it was enjoyable watching him fight growing up. It's unfortunately his name goes on the resume of a guy who has made a career out of fighting UK's ****ty fighters & semi retired old men.

Before you know it Calzaghe will be fighting adolescent boys or women.

Roy did real well with what he had left.

The unfair thing is expecting him to give much more than he was capable of giving.

When you acknowledge that any expectation for Jones Jr. to beat this guy was too high. You will be able to acknowledge how well he did yesterday night.

Unless we one of those who knew it was a meaningless fight and decided not to watch, we all a lil guilty for buying into the hype. Because even just watching is buying into it. It's a vicious cycle because we set ourselves up to be let down time and agin.

And the sense of letdown will be hardest for Roy than anyone. Because he was enjoying being back for real. And then it's over. The crowd empties out the venue. Everything is cleaned out including the fighters. The TV cameras switch off. The venue lights go out and the event is all over.
              Just like that.

So it seems like it was all for nothing.

But in the end. Jones Jr. supports have every reason to be proud of Roy. He went the distance agin a workrate he had no chance of keeping up with and showed a lot of heart to do it.

Very good post.. I agree man.

                  Reality check basically..

I'll get over it, but I'm definately saddened that Roy lost like that..

I'll probably be depressed for the day.. *sigh*

That was some sad ****. He tried to fight to the end but he was beaten down by the better man last nite. From the way he talked on 24/7 he really looked like he came back to life and was gonna put it on Joe. Sucks to say but it's time to go Roy.

Every time Joe flurried I thought ROY would counter at least once, but he was too scared and gunshy.. He didn't really make an effort to hit Joe to the body either.. Soo many countering opportunities were there but he just didn't take them.

I just think that it is sad to see a guy I watched my whole life become what he is now.. I felt the same way when i saw the last Arturo Gatti fight.

I appreciate this guys amazing career and he is the best p4p champ ever in the game.. (i didnt say the best fighter ever)

Hes an ATG might I add and the best fighter ive ever had a chance to watch..

                      Thanks ROY!
rjj's pride will do him in. the saddest part is that he is unwilling to humble himself and retire.
