    I don't know who's worse:
A writer who fabricates new uncertainties or the naive reader who doesn't recognize it as just marketing.
Worse than both is the ignorant critic who can't enjoy a boxer because of his own standards.

The critics or 'haters' choose heroes, then measure EVERY other fighter to the best. BUT Not every fighter is the same!

Jr's patience in the ring alone shows a level of quality in itself.
If you can't see his potential then you're too wrapped up in negative critiquing, and you'll miss out on good suspense in his division!

I agree with your post for the most part, but unsure of the first statement

I'm on record as being one of the few in the media who's supported Chavez Jr. for the most part, and that he needs to be judged on his own, not the ridiculous expectation of living up to his father straight out the box.

I've seen tremendous growth in his first four years as a pro, leading up to and including the Rey Sanchez fight. But there's no denying that he and Arum have spent all of this year ****ing the dog.

Can you say in any of his three fights in 2008 that he's looked any better than how he ended 2007?

That he's added new elements to his game?

That his 2008 campaign hasn't been straight exploitation - from the marketing right down to Chavez Jr's training habits for each of his fights?

i hope he beats matt vanda. i want to see him in there with vanes next. if not vanes then angulo, james kirkland, or somebody with a pulse. a real prospect not somebody top rank dug out of a cemetary. ill watch jc chavez jr vs vanes martirosyan i hopes thats next if they both win.

Writers like this dufous are really out of things to write about. how many great fighters do we have today that had early losses in their careers? pacquiao, castillo, margarito, mijares, hopkins, wright....just to name a few. People are expecting to much out of chavez. he's barely in his 20, no amateur career and this writer is acting like chavez is this failure when he's yet to even get started. It's amazing how people hate you when your making money, i guess people hate that chavez is his dad and that he's known and making money. Get over it! It's like hating Michael Jordan son because he's not as good as his dad but oh wait his son is not making money so it's OK.
Very good point Rogelio, I like the Jordan analogy, actually Patrick Ewing Jr got cut yesterday by the Knicks!

You're a ****en idiot read the article before talking **** about the writer. He was actually very neutral and was kind to Chavez.

I belive Chavez that he was sick and i expect him to win but he'll still have to push in this fight to win. What Jr. has to under stand is that he is not as good as his dad, so he has to use his skills differntly then his dad did.

I remember people saying how Jr. is going to reach undefeated status and go unharmed and these were the haters. Now its clear to them how good Chavez was to go undefeated for so long.

Im more interested in Omars boxing career then Jr.s and whats ****ed up too is you can see by Omars opponets that they are better then when Jr. was getting fed opponets. I still think Omar will be the better of the two sons. But he like Jr. gots to keep focused and train everyday.

Jr has shown talent in his fights, but it's about time for him to step his game up. Berto looks like he's finally gonna do it next year, now it's Chavez' turn.

That sort of fight isnt going to happen right now, I dont think. Vanes can box pretty well, has a pretty good jab and good power, they arent ready to put Chavez Jr in with someone like that, not yet.
I know it gets mentioned over and over again, but he has no am fights. They are gonna continue to bring him along slowly, even if he does give us an impressive performance in the rematch with Vanda.
Same can be said for Vanes, while his opponents have been a little more live, to an extent. Both guys are only 22 years old, Arum isnt going to be hurrying them into dangerous fights.

Let's say for the sake of argument that you're right.
He doesn't look as good this year than he did last year.
                      What does that prove?

That he's 'lost' talent? Stopped progressing?

Nah, perhaps the the higher he gets on the latter of this division the "worse" he ends up looking.
But Who DOESN'T as they approach the top?

More hours in the ring IS a new element let alone the adversity he's gone through. The experience of resilience in the ring WILL be an extra asset for bouts to come.
But Let's say JR HASN'T added any 'new elements to his game....

...Let's elevate your argument to a perfect case against Chavez.
If we broke down every undeniable flaw Chavez has and reasoned that he doesn't have it in him to get past his current #8 WBC ranking, we can still hang on to the hope of his youth!

He's 22 years old! He's got time to lose, comeback, make MAJOR adjustments, and he's got a SUPERB teacher in his corner who can cultivate him in the years to come.

And at the end of his career, EVEN IF JR NEVER reaches #1 in his division, we're STILL gonna witness the "tragedy" of shoes too big to fill in his father's legend. It's all GOOD for boxing!

Enjoy the suspense of this story of a 'flawed understudy', and pin point assets in a boxer rather than flaws. Even IF the story doesn't go OUR way,
cause the ending might actually be good.
