by the time the fight was stopped Margarito was ahead on two cards and even on the other so explain to me how was it going in his favor in an unbiased way?

Fair enough..I'll repeat what has been said a trillion times..the first half of the fight looked waay too lop-sided..Margarito landed the blow to the nose..which isn't illegal of course but you can't deny that it made it that much more difficult for Cotto to breathe...so what happens with out the broken nose?..It might get broken again..that's always a possibilty..

Thats what I have been saying that, vazquez had to quit due to the broken nose. And after that you see what happend, he won the 2nd and 3rd fight. Cotto have the tools to do it. He just was not the better men that night!!!!!
I like MARGARITO But he is not a better pugilist than Cotto, no way.

Cotto held it down for 11 rounds with only face shots, he had no body assault period. see that makes it hard cuz now you got a fighter who's key punch is the left hook to the body and he's not throwing punches to the body. even still he managed to get the better of the 1st half of the fight. Tony won, no doubt but don't play Cotto like a chump, he's still the better pugilist. in the rematch I see Cotto attacking the body and exposing Margarito's body.. it's what he should have done before and what I believe he's gonna do now, only time can tell but Cottoknows how to fight better than Margarito does it's just when you only using 55% of your ability (Cotto, without the bodywork) against 100% (Tony, with his face as a shield and wide body like a trap) you can't expect to do much..

Hasim Rahman did it to Lennox Lewis, in that case the better fighter lost but it was eventually disputed when Lewis came back and KO'ed Rahman. not to say Cotto will KO Margarito but he CAN win, he just needs to better prepare, he needs to execute HIS gameplan regardless what Tony is doing and try to be as effective as possible. as for your post, Williams is a long stringy fighter with a hard to hit style, Margarito's style was hard as **** for him, he looked horrible in winning and didn't really impress, Margarito just couldn't catch on early enough to steal it like my relative from Puerto Rico Indio did but it ain't like Paul proved anything, he beat Tony but with a frame like HIS if YOU know ANYTHING about Boxing you'd know Williams was SUPPOSED to win that fight, Williams could move up to Middleweight and reign if he wanted to, he got the height for it.

is that why Williams wasn't favored against Margarito and Cotto was?

Yea, I heard that it might be happening in the first half of '09 as well. Thats not good for Cotto, he needs to get back in the ring with someone else and get his bearings back. Arum is a moron if he lets his golden boy get back in the ring so fast with Margarito.

It's a winnable fight for Cotto, but it's all about adjustments. If they can be made he can win, and only time will tell that. But Margarito just out willed Cotto during that first fight and deserves all the credit in the world. It took me a couple of weeks to accept it, but it was nothing but a legit, full fledged beat down. Cotto just couldn't take Margarito's accumulation of punches after he wasn't able to throw back anymore, and props to Margs for outlasting him.

And props to posters who took this joke of a thread and made some positive discussion out of it.

Point blank, had it not been for Cotto's nose to be busted up by Marg, he'd probably win decision. But Marg DID bust up his nose so i never discredited Marg's win at ALL. He won fair and square, point blank. But Cotto was outclassing the guy in the 1st six rounds, Cotto is still the more skilled, talented overall better fighter. He will win the rematch, Marg has the same gameplan, skilled fighters adjust and win - simple as that. I'm not complaining, never was - but I know come June it will be a different story. So IDK why people call Cotto a "*****" "quitter" cause a ***** and quitter don't agree to rematch a guy that had them on their knees last fight something Marg hasn't done with Williams who Williams clearly calls out all the time now.; guy's a warrior - he'll be back.
