Calzaghe: "Kessler is Better Than Pavlik, and I Beat Him"

Pavlik is only going to get better, and Calzaghe is only going to get worse. I actually cannot think of any other fighter who relies upon speed and stamina that has still been almost as good as ever at the age of 36.
He will decline at some point though, and his hands are only going to get worse as well. I saw an interview with him a week after the Hopkins fight and he mentioned that they were still sore. I really don't think most people realise how bad they are.

What do you want? Beating Pavlik would be nice, but don't be fooled, Pavlik is just the next name to come along, he's a MW champ with one defence and one meaningful win. Beating him doesn't prove anything Joe hasn't proved before.
As for his prime. His physical prime passed long ago, before the Lacy fight in fact and he's been slipping since then IMO. At 37 (or almost) it is getting decidedly dicey for him on the age front.
and youre nuts if you dont think that Pavlik would add greatly to Calzaghe's legacy. title defences and paper belts mean almost nothing in this day and age. cmon, look at someone like Zsolt Erdie. the guy has around 10 title defences and none of the guys were even worthwhile. does that make him a better Light Heavyweight than someone like Dwight Muhammed Qawi, who only defended his about 4 times? hell no.
the better people that Calzaghe fights, the better his legacy. Me, I would prefer to see Calzaghe try to get as high as he can on ATG lists, and hes not going to do that by ignoring challengers that are worthy of fighting him.

I don't think Pavlik can beat Kessler or Calzaghe, but that doesn't give Calzaghe the excuse to not fight Pavlik.
If Calzaghe knows he can beat Pavlik, why not just fight him and pick up that pay check... MONEY-IN-THE-BANK

give me a break. if youre a real fan of a fighter, you want him to fight the best and give us the best fights. Tony fought Wlad, the best at Heavy, and got knocked out. but I was happy that that happened instead of Tony just running around fighting less risky guys.
