Tony on Cotto: "Not the most difficult fight of my career, but most important..."

"I will put pressure on Cotto, and he will back up. I don’t believe this is the most difficult fight of my career, but it is the most important. It will be a difficult and tough fight, but I believe I will come out victorious. I believe a win in this fight will open doors to bigger fights in the future.”

“This is a very important fight for the welterweight division that’s going to open doors for both of us. I think that both Cotto and myself are aware of the importance of this fight and the opportunities it could lead to. There are big names out there for the winner, like Oscar De La Hoya who has talked about coming back into the welterweight division.”

“I’m not much of a talker, I do my talking in the ring. I’m waiting anxiously for this fight just like everyone else. The crowd and fans will be there in support, but in the ring it is just me and Cotto.”

“I am sure Miguel Cotto will come with a very good strategy, but I will show him that I am a very tough fighter and that it will be very tough for him to be in the ring with me.”

“Mexico and Puerto Rico have a historic and proud rivalry. I remember back to the days of Julio Caesar Chavez vs. Hector Camacho. Those were my favorite fights in the rivalry. My fight with Cotto is for all boxing fans, especially those in Mexico.”

“I have the faith that I will win this fight and come out of it as champion.”

“At this point, Miguel Cotto is the only fight on my mind. I don’t think about Floyd Mayweather, or anything in the future. Now I am only focused on Cotto.”

“Something I learned from the Paul Williams fight was about starting off cold. I know I have to be more aggressive and that is what I am doing from now on.”

“Do not miss this fight, because I’m coming with everything I have. This is a fight not to be missed

"I will put pressure on Cotto, and he will back up."

Supreme confidence here, good stuff. It will be interesting to see how Cotto fights going backwards, as he is usually the aggressor. He will need to use those boxing skills he impressed many with against Mosley to win this fight.

I am totally on the fence as to who will win.

Margarito is all class, respectful and confident as usual, the sign of a True Warrior. I have no doubt in my mind Tony is going to be crowned as the new champion, he is due and this is the biggest fight of his career, there is no way in hell he is going to not perform at 110%, as he said it, this is do or die and he is going to come out on top. It will be a great fight indeed.

Your boy is getting a little too ****y. I think everyone including the two fighters is in for a huge surprise. This is the Superbowl of boxing as far as Puerto Ricans and Mexicans are concerned. I think Margarito is pulling some psy-ops type **** here with all this pressure talk. If he's smart he'll come into every round with a different game plan. Cotto learns patterns easily. You can NOT approach Cotto moving the same way over and over. He can beat you to the punch and as we know all of Cotto's punches hurt. Even the ones that don't land.

I'm sure Tony's camp is aware of all of this patna', but Tony is stating the facts, he is going to pressure Cotto who normally plays the role of the bully in all of his fights. Is like fighting fire with fire, except Tony is cooking at 360 degrees right now and is ready to scorch Cottito. As far as Tony acting ****y, naw, he's always been like that, he is a very confident fighter and that's his mentality. I can't wait for this fight man.

who has been a bigger challenge?

Tony is a good fighter but he is delusional if he thinks this is not his toughest fight...

Ok Paulie Will fans you think Cotto loses to Quintana? NEVER!

Good interview,he should come into the fight with different game plans cause using 1 will not help, cause if he gets in a jam he will start getting wild trying to go for the knockout. One thing that wont be a factor in this fight will be height. He's already stating hes coming forward im sure the cotto camp is well aware he will do that. Margo wil be suceptible to getting jabbed all night. One thing you loose when you come forward is your height,on july 26 they both will be the same height in the ring. But it will be a good fight.

I don't think Margarito has very many different gameplans. It's just come forward, put pressure on, and throw lots of punches. His only chance is if that pressure get's to Cotto. If that doesn't work than he is in for a long night.
