the two sports can co-exist. the prestige is still boxing and mma is not a threat. nobody complained about kickboxing before (and kickboxing is closer to boxing than mma) why are all boxing fans complaining about mma?

Karma! Good post. I don't get why people can't like both either. I've seen UFC since 95 when there weren't weight divisions and anything goes rules. Gracie was a ****ing beast. I think fights went 30 minutes straight too if I remember correctly. Now mind you, I'm not saying I'm a huge fan, but I did see a few fights back then with a roommate who was into it.

One years' worth of training won't make him anywhere near as good as some of the guys in MMA who have been training since they were kids.

It's like saying Anderson Silva can beat David Haye with one years' worth of boxing training, not going to happen.

that's why i don't see floyd walking away from oscar. they're gonna fight. i know it. this is a ploy by floyd to get a better deal with oscar.

the ufc can pay mayweather. it's just a question if they want to. the ufc makes a lot of money. remember they are not only the promoters but the governing council as well. it's like the wba , wbc , ibf , hbo , and gbp all being owned by the same company. of course they don't make as much as boxing but with that type of control over ppv and tv contracts and gate revenue. i'm sure they have money.

I agree. He's just saying this to get more money and leverage in negotiations against DLH.

I don't think the UFC can pay Mayweather the amount of money he would want to get paid, the rest of the fighters would be very unhappy.

the early ufc's are a good example.

ken shamrock was 230 lbs. and was a great wrestler and submission fighter in pancrase.

              royce gracie was 176 lbs.

he choked shamrock out in a couple of minutes.

shamrock didn't know jiu-jitsu. he was a wrestler and submission fighter but he still didn't know what a jiu-jitsu guy was doing to him.

how is floyd gonna handle a jiu-jitsu guy if a wrestler his whole life and submission fighter himself didn't know how to defend against it?

this is bogus. floyd won't do it.

I have to admit, the timing of Dana White and Mayweather's announcements are rather peculiar. Maybe he won't be fighting in UFC, maybe some kind of partnership?

Guys, Floyd Mayweather is not going to be joining MMA. This is the kind of ****** internet bull**** (along with nearly every thread in the lounge) that makes me regret that I spend so much time posting here.

Whoa, a lot of mma hate on here, sad. Anyways, Floyd will not be fighting DLH, they already have another opponent lined up (possibly Winky or Tito rematch)...there is a strong chance he will join the UFC, and move up the ladder with strategic match making (i.e. strikers with no wrestling or BJJ). And for the record, mma is blowing up huge, it's only been around since the 90s, and other then DLH or PBF fights, it hands boxing its ass in PPV revenue. Both are great, both will co exist, but damn will this help make mma more legitimate to ignorant haters.
