I have heard about this technique. I heard the side affect is you are guranteed to get arthritis in your fingers and won't be able to pick up anything by the time you hit 60.
i think that you can harden the skin on your knuckles by rubbing vingegar into the skin, the old bare knuckle fighters used to do this to prevent their hands cutting up.
I dont think you can actualy harden the bones, like was said previously, any purposeful damage to your knuckles in an attempt to harden them will likely give you arthiritis or other bone problems. If you wrap your hands correctly you shoudn't have a problem but even fighters who do this still have problems like mayweather or calzaghe which can prevent you from punching with full force. Its luck i suppose whether you are born with knuckles that can stand up to the demands of training.
if u do it right, your hands don't look any different than anyone elses hands and u won't have hand problems later in life.
there are dozens, or more, deifferent methods of iron fist conditioning.
kostya tszyu does this practice. kt said he always used to have swollen hands from fights. he said after a few months of conditioning practice he never had hand/fist problems again and could punch even a wall with full power without having to worry about breaking his hand or wrist.
and there is no such thing as a black belt in kung fu in traditional practice. any black belt system in chinese martial arts is adaptod from japanese arts to either give people a sense of accomplishment or show to "outsiders" who is good enough.
also, it is not a technique. it is a disciplined practice.
and knuckle push ups are not even close to the same thing, but may be a complementary exercise.
btw, only learn from a qualified teacher. or else u face major hand problems and problems with blood circulation as well as nerve damage.
Punching hot sand is supposed to be a greater way of strengthening the knuckles... It also makes the skin turn hard like leather! Boxers should be allowed to, but here's why they don't: It consumes a lot of time when they can be doing other useful training! Also this only helps with martial arts with no padding and bare knuckle boxing, it would hardly benefit a professional boxer!!!
this dude who was doing it would do the conditioning on his down time when watching TV or reading books. he would just be sitting with a small metal slab next to him slightly punching it. im sure some of you saw this special. im trying to find it right now.

r u talking about pan qing? the guy who worked for the chinese police and brought down groups of gang members single-handidly. he is nobody to **** with.
Put the link up! There's a program in the UK called 'Mind, body, and kick ass moves'. It was packed with detail of strength and conditioning techniques like that
"In the mid-1960s, gangsters in China were a major problem. Pan was asked to capture Triad leaders and ended up nabbing 23 of the worst, some single-handedly."
i dont see the point in trying to strengthen your knuckles. There are so many fighters out there, why not spend the time doing some skills training or cardiovascular, why waste it trying to be bruce lee.
