You are not imagining things. I have noticed it in every fight Merchant has called involving Mayweather. That is one of the reasons why Mayweather doesn't like him. Even in the Hatton fight, Merchant was hesitant to give Mayweather credit for his performance and he made a comment about Mayweather turning down $8 million to fight Margarito. What he failed to mention was that Mayweather turned around and accepted $8 to fight Carlos Baldomir, who was the Ring ****zine champ at welterweight at the time. Ironically, he praises everything De La Hoya does, even when he looks mediocre fighting weak opponents like Steve Forbes.

Now that Mayweather has as much power and influence as Oscar De La Hoya, hopefully, he will demand that Max Kellerman call all of his future fights instead of Merchant. Kellerman is a much better commentator and much more objective.

I don't think Merchant is that pro-De La Hoya. It's usually Lampley who is very biased in favor of De La Hoya (he sounded like he busted a nut when DLH beat Vargas), and also Steward.

"Oscar looks like he did 10 years ago"- Steward during the Forbes fight.

Merchant was the one who called out Steward on his bull**** with quotes like "that's an amazing statement Manny" and "even taking into account the quality of opposition??" during the DLH-Forbes fight.

Merchant also was very critical of DLH during the Whitaker fight, seeing DLH coming out to Mariachi music as a blatant attempt to get the Mexican fans behind him after beating a bunch of Mexican fighters, and saying "I love Mariachi music, but in this case, it stinks".

DLH tried to get Merchant removed from HBO and Merchant had to make a public apology on the air a little while later.
