    Matweather May Never Fight Cotto

Look both guys are great fighters and I'd love to see them fight but I doubt it will ever happen. The reason Mayweather is undefeated and the number one pound for pound fighter today is because how he carefully selects his opponents. That's not to say he's not an awesome fighter or that he couldn't win but that he can fight far safer opponents for big money. He's in the financial drivers seat and doesn't need a high risk fight against Cotto when he can make big bucks fighting old semi-retired fighters like Dela-Hoya or a re-match against the Big Show. Mayweather isn't going to do anthing to upset his financial gravy train and with the kind of money he's making you can't blame him really

That's what boxing used to be about. Now, with the gauntlet of belt holders in each division and the amount of money to be made that no longer is the case. A perfect example of marketing is Ricky Hatton, he has been carefully fed challengers until the world was convinced that he was the guy to beat Mayweather. Most people like me who carefully follow the sport saw this build-up to a big money fight for exactly what it was. Here's Hatton who nearly got his head torn off by a journeyman welterweight name Collazo being touted as this unstoppable force going after Mayweather's title and the public bought it. This was certainly not the toughest fight out there for Mayweather but was most financially lucritive. Every media market has there version of the best fighter. HBO had there version in Jermain Taylor who fought no one after winning the title yet was touted as this superman and once again the public bought it. Isn't it a shame that so many no named fighters box and win time after time for peanuts but fighters like Dela Hoya, Tarver, Roy Jones Jr and now Hopkins command huge paydays for fighting each other and somehow are still in the pound for pound list for years without fighting any of the top REAL active fighters. Cotto IS the best welterweight in the world today because he has earned that title by fighting REAL top welterweights. Mayweather is an awesome fighter but can't be seriously concidered the best at 147 when he has not consistantly fought the top fighters in that weight division. Judah, Dela Hoya or Hatton, come on!!! The whole pound for pound list is nothing more than a media gimmik and means nothing

Challengers like Zoo and JLC... perfect example you make right there...

No one like Hopkins again and Winky?

Whereas Cotto fought REAL top welterweights? like who, apart from Quintana? 36 years old former lightweight Shane Mosley, who did not win a title fight in ages? former superlightweight Zab Judah, coming off two losses and a year layoff? or 37 year old former superlightweight contender Oktay Urkal?

My GOD that's the toughest lineup of real top welterweights in history... LOL

In which case I can tell you that the last time you checked was 2005.

The two fought in 2007, in case you did not notice.

And in case you did not know, Judah was a superlightweight until he fought Spinks the first time. (The chicken dance was at 140)

all of them started there career at that weight and cotto went up after them so it doesn't matter.

To say that Floyd has faced tougher comp at WW would be comical.

                  36yr old SSM still *****s a 35yr old Semi-retired/part-time fighter/promoter Oscar Delahoya.

Both fought Zab, but Cotto's win was MUCH more decisive.

Quintana is better than both Baldomir and Sharmbe.

So please elaborate on how Floyd has faced better comp at 147. Even Floyd fans (not Floydboyz) recognize that Cotto has faced better opposition at WW.

Not that I mentioned that, the fact that you do makes me think you already know Mayweather has a better record at 147.

it's your opinion, let's see with what facts you are going to explain it.

just an opinion, do you want me to be silly and tell you about Vargas and Mayorga? No, that would be too silly.

                    1) Take away low blows from both fights

                    2) Judah was coming off two losses and a 1 year+ layoff, when he fought Cotto

Maybe than Sharmba, I dont see why he is better than Baldomir.

I just did that. Throw in 140 ring champion.

The original poster I was replying to talks about TOP, REAL welterweights. Not only Zab is physically smaller than Cotto, but there was nothing top about him by the time they fought.
