Hopkins-Calzaghe: National Anthems Banned

I think this is a sad commentary if we can't as boxing fans respect another country's anthem. Both anthems should be played.

In Britain, we actually take the piss out of ourselves (if you know what that term means?), it's a national thing to do. Brits don't understand how Yanks take their nation/anthem so seriously or whatever.

Maybe national anthems shouldn't be played at sporting events then, I served 3 tours in Iraq and during one of those tours I had 2 British soldiers attached to my unit. I never really cared about the national anthem of my own country much less Britain's. But after that kid got killed and many of my friend's, Both mean a lot to me now. Don't get me wrong, I don't think we should have been there any damn way but anyway, the anthems are symbolic. I'd probably kick someone's 'arse' if they were to boo the British national anthem as well as the American. For me personally, now when I hear any country's national anthem I think about the soldiers that fought for that country past and present.

This is a smart move for team Calzaghe since the booing of the national anthem doomed Hatton, as it clearly effected Cortez and the judges of being "fair."

Calzaghe does not deserve to robbed of a victory because of some drunk fans being silly. Hopkins best chance at winning is to go the distance and hope for some biased judging since Calzaghe is going to throw and land twice as many punches while controlling the pace.

A majority of Yanks don't even know the lyrics to the anthem anyway...

It would be funny if someone is writting a rap song about Calzaghe beating Hopkins ass*no offense, he did it against kessler too* and that is his entrance song just like his entrance song against kessler was a whole song about calzaghe kicking the crap out of kessler... Hilarious, **** would be funny if the same rapper does another song for calzaghe for the hopkins fight.
