I think it's a good idea. Let's keep politics out of boxing. Calzaghe isn't fighting for the queen, and Hopkins is not fighting for his country. If you somehow came to the conclusion that he is, then you've been conned. He is fighting for a ****load of money and for his own fame. Let's be realistic here.

There's a respect problem in that part of the world. It's not everyone, but it's number too large.
You guys can say nothing about respect problems the majority of americans no nothing about what goes on in the rest of the world. Hows your respect wanting to invade every country that dare say anything negative to you.

This is a smart move for team Calzaghe since the booing of the national anthem doomed Hatton, as it clearly effected Cortez and the judges of being "fair."

Calzaghe does not deserve to robbed of a victory because of some drunk fans being silly. Hopkins best chance at winning is to go the distance and hope for some biased judging since Calzaghe is going to throw and land twice as many punches while controlling the pace.

A majority of Yanks don't even know the lyrics to the anthem anyway...

If you Americans were that patriotic you would spontaneously sing the anthem without the need for Michael Buffer to announce it.

Please..just..stop. You have ZERO proof of this. It's a referees' job to not be biased and Cortez is a long time professional, the best of the best. He didn't do a great job, that's true, but I think he deserves the benefit of the doubt. To suggest he suddenly got patriotic after the booing of the anthem and decided to take his personal vengeance out on the UK through Hatton is just silly. I think he's smart enough to be able to separate the actions of some select fans from the fighter.

Not to mention there are plenty of American's who didn't really care about the anthem being booed. Most Americans would probably agree that it was classless but it was quickly forgotten since US fans either came into the fight wanting Hatton or Mayweather to win and I seriously doubt too many people had a change of heart after the anthem. Just as I expect the judges and ref (professionals) to remain neutral.

He did a horrendously one sided job as referee. He called Hatton for holding when Hatton wasn't holding, Floyd was. I'm not saying it had anything to do with the anthem, I don't believe that, but he certainly wasn't unbiased.

I guess you guys don't care about your anthem b/c it starts off with, "god save the queen" and I'm gonna assume that everyone over there doesn't give a **** about that old lady so why would you praise her? I guess it's weird over there to take pride in one's anthem, I don't know but that's weird to me but what ev, it seems when you guys boo something bad happens. Remember the Croatia game and Hatton, not being a **** but pretty funny.

It wouldn't have been God Save the Queen. It would have been the welsh national anthem. Or maybe they would have played God save the queen for it to get roundly booed by thousands of Welshmen. Enzo Calzaghe's face would have been worth it.

Personally I hate the 'God save the Queen' it's bad song in simple times. Melodically, lyrically it's ****.

The American anthem is wank anyway for the same reasons, didn't a Brit write that?

I understand a good anthem can enthuse people, but not these two ****ty anthems surely. Listen to the French, Italian or even German national anthems, they are proper anthems.
