He's going to make it in regardless. Should he be in on the first ballot is the question. I say no, but he should make it eventually.

The question is, whether he's a hall of famer or not. The answer to that is NO. The next question is, will he be inducted, and the answer to that is YES. We all talk like it's hard to get in the BHOF, but in reality, there are so many fighters in it that have lesser resumes and weaker accomplishments. I think they induct fighters who just give boxing notice rather than through total accomplishments. Hamed surely got the public's attention.

Hamed is often remembered in terms of the Barrera fight. In good part, it's his fault. Had he picked himself up after that defeat, he would have left a better memory. One that is so much better than that "MAB expose'" and his lame attempt at a comeback-- a listless performance against a small Spaniard whom, reason dictated, he should have disposed of in mere minutes.
But, there have been great ones who had worse last appearances. The Hall of Fame is full of such greats. I think Hamed should be there with them.
The Barrera defeat should not be given inordinate weight against Hamed's bid for the Hall. It was a Barrera after all who defeated Hamed, and none less.
There are fighters in the Hall who had been defeated by other fighters who are likewise in there. Some inductees had even been defeated by ones who cannot come within a thousand miles from Canastota. Naseem has one loss-- to Barrera.
The critics of Hamed may single out Hamed's behaviour after the Barrera defeat; they may argue that the fella has no heart. They'll point out that Hmed gave up after one defeat, and they shall underscore the manner by which MAB defeated Hamed.
But those who support Hamed shall quickly counter that The Prince had picked himself up quite a number of times from a KD and turned things around to win-- every single time. That's heart atop the ring, they'll say. They'll talk about the Kelley fight...
And, they'll talk, too, of Hamed's conquests which is a list that includes some ten former, current or future world (alphabet) title holders and a few more former, current and future regional champions.
And their punchlines may be: If having been beaten by Barrera ( or, any HOFer) is what shall be the criterion upon which denial of Hamed's induction is to be based then, Morales shan't have a chance. And because Morales beat Pacquiao, neither shall Pacquiao have a shot.
Now, that spells T-R-O-U-B-L-E.Last edited by grayfist; 10-22-2007, 10:24 PM.

He was the featherweight of the nineties.
He failed when he fought against an elite opponent. However his ring entrances, power ,showmanship and his classic fights like the one against Kevin Kelley is enough to justify his placein the Hall of fame.
