    Meldrick Taylor

How good could he have been had the Chavez fight not ruined his career?

Christ almighty, he looked good against Chavez in the first fight... he still looked decent against Chavez in the rematch, but clearly a bit diminished.

I have only seen the Chavez fight, so that may very well have been his one shining moment, but anyways, could he have been the GOAT had he been able to continue fighting at his prime level after Chavez I?

i dono if he would be the greatest of all time, but he would definitely be a good candidate IMO. he had the fastest combination throwing handspeed that i have ever seen, and great boxing skills, as well as power. he was a great great fighter and its sad what happened to him with that stoppage with 2 seconds left in the last round... meldrick is the man!

look what he did to Buddy McGirt if you get the chance. blazing handspeed that just overwhelmed McGirt as the fight went on and forced the ref to stop it. he was hurt multiple timse in that fight. i think it was the 11th or 12th the fight was ended. he was no weak puncher when he caught you flush, which was bound to happen in his casual 8 punch combination...

and Chavez may have torn a huge chunk out of his career in that fight, but if Taylor had anything left, his fight with Terry Norris and the Chavez rematch ended it. but before that, a lot of people thought Taylor was the second coming of Sugar Ray Leonard.

one problem...he sometimes got hit a lot, because he didnt use his speed and agility for boxing. he went right at it. Excellent conditioning, possibly p4p the fastest hand speed of all time, and tons of heart=amazing fighter.

Try to find fights from Taylor on his way up. He may have been the most exciting prospect i can remember. He was entertaining and flashy from the start. I seldom watch prospects today to be entertained in that way.

But the Chavez fight didnt ruin his career just because he got robbed of a win, but because it took everything out of him. like they said in the legendary nights show, he lost his prime in that fight, he look a beating.

I still TO THIS VERY DAY dont know whether or not Steele made the right decision. but thats another discussion. so many things to factor in and stuff...

He was a monster. About as skilled as Mayweather but a WARRIOR. Threw the fastest combinations that I have ever seen. Stayed in the pocket and brawled. He had that philly mentality.

The stoppage in the Chavez fight was controversial, yes, but it didn't ruin his career. It was the horrible beating that Chavez gave him during those 12 rounds. Taylor was just never the same.

Amazingly, he had problems when he fought an slightly over-the-hill Howard Davis Jr.

He looked awesome in Buddy McGirt fight aswell im not sure how good he could of been he had some flaws like getting into brawls when it wern't to his best advantage see the Terry Norris fight i still feel Meldrick Taylor's combo's are some of the quickest i've ever seen i always felt sorry for Taylor if you see his speech now plus the beating he got from Chavez was the kind of beating you never get over physically or mentally he swallowed a pint of his own blood he was pissing blood and he had broken cheek bone aswell.

Thats very good way of describing Taylor because both Mosley and Taylor have super fast combos both have good chins and both like to slug it out even when they don't have to.
