I think a rematch makes good sense for Mccall since I've heard he'll make some good money while staying active while he waits for his shot...
As good as Vitali was, it's a sad state of affairs if a guy like him can come back after so long out and be in a better position than active fighters. If the fight was an ''eliminator'' then why haven't the WBC gone ahead with that and put McCall in as mandatory challenger for the winner of Maskaev vs Peter? Perhaps that's the case, but McCall deserves a shot quicker than Klitschko, who hasen't even fought yet.

It seems like Vitali owns the WBC and dictates to them whatever he wants; and does seem unfare to a fighter like Mccall who has earned his title shot the hard way. Whatever the case, hopefully Mccall will be up for the challenge when he finally does realize his title shot against whoever is in there at the moment.

Another thing, if Mccall rematches Sam and loses does this jepardize his title shot? If it does, I would have serious reservations about a rematch...

We'd have unification in ALL the divisions if they didn't have all their stoopid corrupt alphabet things. Guess they feel they can make more money billing more fights as "world championships"...it could be like wrassling where there's a different "world champion" in all the different parts of the country and the world.

Wasn't Vitali given some sort of guarantee by head gangster capo King that if he ever returned he would go straight back up to the head of the class?

I dont agree at all. mcall has lost to jcg and tos and a win over a journeyman like sam is hardly championship caliber. at least vitali was on top when he retired. its not like he retired after a loss

That type of cut - near the outer and upper side of the eye - is usually caused by a headbutt. The bone that surrounds the eye comes in contact with the opponents skull, and it causes a serious gash in the skin that covers it.

Many boxers are masters of doing this to their opponents - Holyfield is notorious for it. Tyson said he bit Holyfield's ear because he was angry that Holyfield was deliberately trying to cut him with headbutts. Both Cotto and Judah cut each other that way in their fight.

This is McCall's last chance at a major title,i dont think he should even consider a rematch.Regardless of the purse.

On a sidenote, I was a bit disappointed when I saw Juan Carlos Gomez only managed a UD over Bakhtov. It does look he he won every round though, in fairness. It looks like he may well get some sort of title shot sometime in the near future.

WBC-President Sulaiman: “I know Juan very well from the time when he was WBC Cruiserweight Champion. He is one of the most talented boxers of our time. I am convinced that if he is able to focus on training and fighting he can beat every heavyweight in the world today.”

Manager Ahmet Öner would love to see Gomez in a WBA eliminator with Nikolai Valuev to become the mandatory challenger for World Champion Ruslan Chagaev. But new WBO Champion Sultan Ibragimov seems to be interested in fighting Gomez as well…
