Firstly, he was responding to someone else's threatening statements with the simple, unthreatening observation -- and it's a very true one, that I and my own friends have made often between ourselves -- that many of these bigoted Islamophobes are nothing in a man to man situation without the protection and augmentation of numbers...they skulk by, looking at their feet, or else just glowering, saying nothing.

With regards to your first point, is everyone who frequents a pub now an 'Islamophobe' then? My point was simply an observation about the militant Islamists who are a cancer on our society, who to me at least, share many similarities with the bigoted far right scumbags.

If he was simply remarking about the bigots within our society then I retract my post and apologise, however, I detect a deeper and darker meaning behind his words. How can it be right that because you were born with a different colour skin that you should feel scared within your community? He appears to take great joy in this fact.

I know exactly what he means, because myself and my friends, of whom all of us have a deeper and more conscious investment in these concerns than you, have made the same remarks in actual conversation amongst ourselves - if TRANSWARP reads this and cares to qualify his statement, he will confirm that...I may even PM him with the encouragement to clarify fully what he meant.

So, with that in mind, why shouldn't he take a quiet satisfaction in the knowledge (gained from experience) that many of the hateful people who would wish violence and persecution and exile upon him lack the courage within themselves to even look him in the eye, man to man, when they pass in the street, much less express themselves in the manner they would express themselves when protected and augmented by numbers?
