My intention here is not to single out any member, and not to say I am not guilty of similar transgressions.
The point is when we are looking at a fight, do we know what we are supposed to look for? What we are seeing? Without understanding certain conventions we really miss a lot of information.
Now, I had a discussion with DoctorZ and I simply want to point out that, regardless of what one critiques, we have to be aware of certain conventions. Here is a film of Louis versus Godoy
Now look at this video describing a false center line stance:
We have to know about this technique to understand why the fighters look a certain way. If we do not it appears that fighters are off balance.
Same problem when we look at preclassical fighters who fight at a different length and control distance different than Classical boxing.
Lets also keep in mind that the Amature style we see now is ver basic. It does not employ angles, fighting off the back foot, or different guard positions. Many of the skills we see in boxing have gone by the wayside. then you have throwback fighters like Toney and Hopkins who employ these tricks.
what are things we can look for in film? specifically?
